This week our KOA team, Carlos Velasquez, AICP, David Mariscal, Eunju Jung, Armin Jorgenson, AICP, Raquel Jimenez attended the APA Los Angeles Section’s 2024 Awards Gala! Along with LADOT, Here LA, and Leslie Scott, they were recognized for their hard work and dedication on the Safe Routes to School Shatto Place Redesign Quick Build Project and received the Award in Excellence, Best Practices category. KOA led several engagement efforts, the grant application development process, and the ultimate design that led to its implementation. The project has resulted in drastically improved street conditions for students and other road users. Congratulations to everyone involved in the success of this project and a huge shoutout to all the incredible collaborators we’ve worked with!

This past weekend, the KOA & Triunity, Inc. 2024 Summer Volunteer Event was held at Seal Beach where over 360 pounds of trash was successfully collected! Despite a beach clean-up event the day before, we still managed to gather so much trash! We would like to thank The Surfrider Foundation for working with us again and teaching us the importance of protecting our ocean, waves, and beaches. After the clean-up, our volunteers went to The Beach House for a delicious meal and amazing views of the clean beach. We are excited for the next opportunity to give back to our communities! Last week, KOA teamed up with leaders from Lochner and Triunity, Inc. to attend the 63rd Annual Western Winter Workshop ™ in Thermal, California. The Workshop is an annual industry event that brings together capital program organizations, executives, contractors, consultants, innovators, and technology professionals all with one goal: achieving successful project delivery. This year's event featured two and a half days of presentations on cutting-edge program management, project controls, and construction management tools. Attendees had a unique opportunity to network with key decision-makers from major capital project organizations, including owners, executives, managers, engineers, and other industry professionals. #LochnerLeads #Leadership 

Recently, our team collaborated with LADOT to implement a Quick Build Project on Shatto Place within the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles, prioritizing the enhancement of student safety at Young Oak Kim Academy Middle School. This project incorporated practical features like curb extensions, median railing, and parklets alongside artistic installations, all designed to foster a safer and more vibrant community environment. KOA collaborated with the school community to involve students in the planning and execution of the project, integrating artistic curb extensions and asphalt art. These elements are designed to remain in place for a temporary period of 1-4 years until permanent funding is secured. Throughout this duration, KOA will collaborate with LADOT to gather data and assess the project's success using predefined metrics. At KOA and Lochner's family of companies, community involvement is embedded in our core values. This project's community-centric approach has captured significant media attention, underscoring the importance of collaboration within our neighborhoods.
