About us

At KVC Health Systems, our 2,400 caring team members work every day to strengthen families, prevent child abuse and neglect, and help both children and adults achieve mental wellness. We all need connection! And at KVC, our employees are our greatest asset and strength, helping the people we serve experience the power of connection to themselves, their family and friends, and to professionals who can help them thrive. We're working toward a bold vision: a world in which every person is SAFE and CONNECTED to a strong family and a healthy community. No more child abuse and neglect. No more untreated mental illness or addiction. Parents no longer pass down the cycles of violence, substance use or trauma that they experienced as children. Instead, families have the skills and supportive connections they need to thrive. Every individual has unlimited possibilities and can reach their full potential. This is why the KVC team comes to work every day, providing family strengthening services, mental and behavioral healthcare, foster care, adoption and inpatient children’s mental health treatment. People are facing serious challenges, and community needs are greater than ever. Will you join us? Since 1970, KVC has grown from a single home for at-risk children to a national organization serving over 80,000 children and families each year in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Kentucky and West Virginia. KVC also provides training and consultation around the world. We're a family of private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations committed to enriching and enhancing the lives of children and families. What does a child need to thrive? Most people know that children need shelter, food and love to be happy and healthy, but there’s more to consider. Larger systemic trends in a child’s home state also have a direct impact on their wellbeing. The Annie E. Casey Foundation recently released the 2024 KIDS COUNT® DATA BOOK, their annual study of children across the United States, measuring state-specific factors at play in determining overall wellbeing. This edition features post-pandemic learning loss, and how poverty, physical and mental health, and trauma have resulted in a nationwide failure to prepare children to learn. Learn more about what we as child welfare professionals can take from this report and how KVC is working to give every child the resources they need to learn and grow, https://hubs.ly/Q02GZ9y00.

Today, U.S. Senator Jerry Moran announced a $2 million grant of Congressionally Directed Spending to help children and families served by KVC Health Systems and our subsidiaries. Sen. Moran is a long-time champion of children and families, and specifically children’s mental health and rural healthcare. These funds will go to technology enhancements that help KVC innovate the most effective ways of caring for children in need. Specifically, KVC’s team of software developers will use the funds to create urgently needed mobile apps and assessments that help with suicide prevention, mental health treatment, and increasing family connection. Family connection is a research-backed protective factor that helps prevent suicide and increase child health and wellbeing. We will deploy these apps and other tech enhancements at our children’s mental health hospitals where we provide inpatient treatment, as well as in our community-based programs where we provide foster care and family strengthening services. These funds will help save lives and improve lives, making sure every child is cared for by a safe, loving family and that every child gets the highest quality mental health treatment available. Thank you, Jerry Moran!
