In the wake of Hurricane Helene, communities across the Southeast are demonstrating remarkable resilience. From the children & families served by public and private human service organizations, to the dedicated employees providing these essential services, the strength of these communities is inspiring. But they need our help—today & in the months to come—as they work to rebuild their homes, communities, and lives. FFTA has developed a two pager (https://qr.codes/cvKXEp), listing local charities and resources that we hope you will share. Our FFTA Member Organizations across North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, and Virginia—many of which serve foster, kinship, and adoptive families—are not only helping their communities recover, but may also be facing challenges of their own. Many of these organizations are on the front lines, providing critical mental health services, family support, and care to children and families. They, too, need assistance and support as they remain a lifeline for so many during this crisis. We’ve listed these organizations by state. Please visit their websites, and support their essential work, both now and in the future, as they help their communities heal, recover, and rebuild. https://qr.codes/cvKXEp #FFTA #FFTACommunity #support #resources #donate

This work is anchored in the importance of developing and nurturing supportive communities for all. We have nearly 500 member organizations from 47 states, as well as Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Canada, and Australia. Through 24 State FFTA Chapters, we support integration of local- and federal-level bast practices and policies. As an association, our vision is more communities where those who support families feel supported, and all are thriving. We leverage collective knowledge, proven solutions, innovation, and inclusion to advance wellness for all families and communities.

FFTA and Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities at Notre Dame (LEO) have been developing a partnership over the past three years, in the mutual interest of encouraging impact evaluations (research!) in the child welfare and mental health sectors. FFTA member, The Villages of Indiana, is creating an intervention to help older foster care youth succeed, focusing on case management engagement, financial literacy, and healthy spending and saving habits. LEO and The Villages of Indiana are partnering to test the impact on economic mobility of three service arms: traditional older youth services, incentivizing youth to meet with case managers three times a month, and incentivizing these meetings while funding a savings account for the youth. LEO and Villages of Indiana co-presented at the FFTA Conference in Denver. During the workshop, several attendees expressed interest in considering an impact evaluation at their own organization and/or other possible collaborative opportunities. If you are interested, please reach out to Eric Giovanni at egiovanni@ffta.org. #FFTA #FFTACommunity #member #partnership #impact #research

On Wednesday, I had the privilege of partnering with Lakeside Educational Network, Lakeside Global Institute and Family Focused Treatment Association (FFTA) to attend a powerful webinar on “exploring the legacy of trauma through the lens of kinship care”, in honor of Kinship Awareness Month. How would I describe this training? It was transformative, healing, and filled with strength and hope. The topic became deeply personal for me. One participant shared, “Reflections - Finding ways to increase space for compassion in our systems around generational trauma can allow for so much healing in family systems. Kinship caregivers, the children and youth in their care, and primary families benefit greatly from a compassionate and understanding lens, so much more than objective judgment. The training was wonderful, thank you!!! My nervous system feels much more regulated than after a typical webinar.” If you're interested in learning more about our trainings and how we can partner, please visit lakesidetraining.org or reach out!

Krista, Ashton, and Jonathan were in beautiful Lake Waccamaw yesterday facilitating our September Family Focused Treatment Association (FFTA) Kinship Therapeutic Foster Care Learning Community! We spent time being introspective and identifying our own motivation, how we can motivate kinship caregivers, discussing strategies for having crucial conversations, and more! Special thank you to Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina for hosting and all of our other hardworking and insighful partners like Wake County, New Hanover County, Methodist Home for Children, and Children's Hope Alliance! #KinshipCare #therapeuticfoster #learningcommunity #KinshipCareMonth
