  • Along with our presenting sponsors Benchmark Construction Company and Capital Blue Cross, we want to express our deep appreciation to everyone who supported our recent Wine Heart Gala. With your help, we netted more than $153,000 for our cardiovascular programs and services for our community. In addition, through gifts made that evening, we will be able to increase access to life-saving automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for local first responders, schools, churches, and non-profit organizations. We were honored to have one person who benefitted from the availability of AEDs, in attendance at the event, celebrating with his friends and family. In 2022, Fred Kohler (center) went into cardiac arrest at a local gym. Abbey Oatman (second from left), a Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health physician assistant, was working out close by. Along with others, she ran to Kohler's aid and began CPR. As they were doing breaths and compressions, an AED was brought to them, allowing them to shock Kohler within three minutes of his heart stopping. His pulse resumed, and he began to regain consciousness. By the time paramedics arrived on the scene, he was awake and talking before being taken to Lancaster General Hospital for bypass surgery. Learn more about the importance of AEDs, and how Kohler and Oatman, now running partners, have formed a lasting friendship: http://spr.ly/6041qAGWF
