We can't think of a better way to kick off our conference than with the unveiling of the highly anticipated "Sports in the Los Angeles Basin: The 2024 Economic Impact Analysis." Stephen Cheung, President and CEO of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), and our board member Merryll McElwain, SE-AWMA, CEPA Senior Wealth Advisor and SVP of Wilmington Trust, will present the key findings of LAEDC's fourth annual economic impact of sports study commissioned by the Los Angeles Sports Council. This ongoing series is the only of its kind to quantify the economic activity and impact of the sports industry in the Los Angeles Basin, which includes L.A. and Orange counties. These studies are a crucial component in understanding growth and how our dynamic sports ecosystem – from the professional and collegiate teams to the businesses, venues and fans – plays a vital role in our region's economic, social and cultural prosperity. Last year, we learned our sports sector was an $8.9 billion economic engine for our region – a nearly $2 billion increase from the previous year – and surged past economic activity and benchmarks in employment, labor income and total output. Don't miss Stephen and Merryll unveiling the 2024 economic impact study and sharing their expert insights on Monday, October 14, at the Intuit Dome.
