Everyone feels the tension in the air. Do you know the real impact that the Latino vote has on this election? Let's talk about it... Latinos comprise now nearly 20% of the U.S. population and are the fastest growing segment of eligible voters. Add to that: Latino YOUTH, who make up 25% of Americans under the age of 18 with 94% born in the U.S. and with English as their first language - are not only engaged but are also increasingly shaping the course of elections. This makes it interesting. 17.5 MILLION U.S. Latinos are estimated to be voting in this election and of those, 1 in 5 will do so for the FIRST time in a presidential election. It's powerful. Whatever you vote, remember that it counts. “Media is the most important feedback that any person in this country gets, right? We, as you perfectly know, receive hundreds of thousands of images every day. This industry is actually, first of all, making us invisible, but when we are not invisible, most of the time we're negative. So one of the most important consequences of this invisibility and then the few times that we’re portrayed, this negative portrayal is that people that have not met a Latino or that have no contact with a Latino believe those things.” Great podcast interview with the LDC's President and CEO, Ana Valdez, and Julio Ricardo Varela from The Latino Newsletter discussing the importance of the media in shaping the Latino narrative and what the #LDC does and why. It was such a joy to speak at the first #BinationalMexicanAmericanYouthLeadersForum in Washington DC! To meet these young bicultural students was to see the faces of the next-generation leaders we talk about in our recently released #LDCLatinoYouth2030Report! It was a huge treat. Mostly students from Georgetown University but a good sample of many other schools around the country, they are sharp, energized, motivated, they know their value and they are ready to take the seat on the table that they and their parents have earned. Thanks, Jose Aguilar and #DonJaimeLucero for inviting me and organizing this powerful audience; to the #GeorgetownLatinoStudentsAssociation; to the The Wilson Center, and to the rest of the speakers, some of them good friends such as Marco A. Davis and Rafael Bernal. Latino Donor Collaborative The Hill Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) María Calderón Sayuri Toribio Fuerza Migrante Foundation
