In 2023, our annual survey revealed key insights from students and graduates at our African partner universities. Notably, among the 1368 participants, 29% felt that their study programs did not connect them with companies for internships or job opportunities, and 68% did not participate in an internship during their SCM studies. To address this, we are strengthening our industry-university collaborations by increasing support for internships, career fairs, networking opportunities, and more. A recent highlight was the Transport, Logistics, and Procurement Career Expo at Makerere University Business School , #Uganda, on September 6, 2024. The event brought together students and industry leaders, with speakers such as katushabe Winstone, Commissioner of Transport Regulation and Safety at the Ministry of Work and Transport, Merian Sebunya, Chairperson at Uganda Freight Forwarders Association, Deus Mukyenga, Chief Operations Officer at Multilines International Limited, Baluka Mariam, Senior Officer for Capacity Building at the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA), Alex Nduhura, Chairman of CIPS Uganda, and other notable figures from the public and private sectors. We thank all our partners universities and students for helping us identify key areas for growth and collaboration. Together, we are building stronger pathways for the next generation of supply chain professionals. On the occasion of the Kaduna State University KASU Department of Logistics Procurement & Supply Chain Management Industry week 2.0, KASU showcased her first set of 35 undergraduate students enrolled into the NUC approved BSc LSCM degree program. This will be the first time any Nigerian University will be offering a fully approved undergraduate programme in the field of Logistics and SCM. At LEARN Logistics, we are proud to witness this milestone development with one of our Partner Universities in Nigeria. LEARN Logistics will continue to offer dedicated funding and technical supports towards local capacity building programs in order to achieve sustainable transformation in LSCM operations that would trigger economic development by providing the local labour markets with urgently needed LSCM professionals. #logistics #supplychain #education

At LEARN, we focus on strengthening higher education through the development and implementation of Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) university degrees in low-income countries. A key component for long-term impact within our intervention is the establishment of PhD programs. PhD holders help to meet the demand for qualified SCM teaching and research staff. More professors and researchers translate into better-equipped students and more contextualized solutions for the supply chain challenges in the global south. In 2019, we jointly created the first PhD program in SCM in Ethiopia at Addis Ababa University School of Commerce. Last week, the program graduated its first PhD student - Zelalem Tadesse. We celebrate this graduation and thank all the people who made this possible. Special thanks to Zellalem’s local and international supervisor Matiwos Ensermu, Dr Simon Peter Nadeem, the international PhD lecturers teaching in the program Goke Oke,Denny J.
