Sepsis is a rule out for eye donation. This is a great podcast regarding what it is, how it affects the body and why it is a global challenge to identify and treat septic patients as well as the advancements and new biomarkers being made for diagnosing future septic patients.
September is Sepsis Awareness Month. Experts Rangarajan Sampath, Mervyn Singer, Eric Gluck, and Patti DeJuilio as well as patient advocate Heike Spreter-Krick discuss diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. https://lnkd.in/dBiqWSXJ #SepsisAwarenessMonth

September is DMV appreciation month. LEBNE stopped into the Henrietta NY DMV to raise awareness for drivers to sign up for organ donation. A few locals who were already organ donors helped us out! Have you said yes yet? #Donatelife #donatelifenystate

LEBNE had a great time at NYSFDA annual convention at turning stone. We'd like to thank the The Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration and the Lions Eye Bank For Long Island for being co-sponsors. Special shout out Maria Chelko for sharing the booth and helping raise awareness for eye donation! Also thanks to FD friends Mary Buckland Rutan and LIONS INTERNATIONAL LIONS CLUB OF CHATHAM Mike Blasi! #eyedonation

The human eye is truly remarkable!
This is a fascinating case that really shows the marvel of the human eye. This is known as megalocornea. As the name suggests, the corneas are larger than normal. In this case, the optics of the cornea bend enough of the light such that we can visualise the "angle" of the anterior chamber when looking from the side. The angle is an anatomical structure normally only visible using a special contact lens known as a gonioscope. Remarkably, this chirpy young boy had excellent 20/20 vision! Special thanks to this boy and his family for allowing us to share his case ☺️ 💙 Full case here: https://lnkd.in/e8xrsQry

🔵 Keratoconus is an eye disease that affects the structure of the cornea, resulting in loss of vision. Keratoconus occurs in approximately one in 2,000 individuals, typically beginning in puberty and progressing into the mid-30s. Early stages can be treated with glasses, but with progression of the disease into late childhood and early adulthood, corneal transplantation may be needed to restore sight. Corneal collagen cross-linking is a procedure designed to stop the progression of keratoconus or slow it down. Keratoconus is a leading cause of corneal transplantation in the United States. There is no known prevention for keratoconus.
