Honoring the Legacy of Oregon's Women As we conclude Women's Appreciation Month, let's not only celebrate the achievements of the past but also draw inspiration from them for the future. Let's honor the legacies of Oregon's women and continue to champion equality and diversity as we seek to amplify women's voices and create a future where the inclusivity of every woman's contribution is celebrated and valued. From suffragists' tireless campaigns to the 1921 milestone securing federal voting rights, each moment reflects the strength and resilience of Oregon's women. Check out Oregon’s history and the diverse background of women in the Oregon Women's Suffrage Timeline. https://lnkd.in/gJ2f-8A8 Women of Color in Suffrage provides some insight into the challenges overcome and the voices involved in the suffrage movement. https://lnkd.in/gCWEmfi2 #WomensAppreciationMonth #OregonWomen #Empowerment #Inclusion 1905 - The National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) held its national convention in Portland in conjunction with the Lewis and Clark Exposition.

Oregon Black History: Honoring the Legacy, Continuing the Journey As we step into March, we extend our recognition to the remarkable Oregonians who have served as beacons of inspiration, reminding us that the pursuit of equality is an ongoing endeavor. Today we pay tribute to Michael D. Levelle, whose historic election as the first African American President of the Oregon State Bar in 2017 marks a significant milestone in our state's legal history. Under the banner of "We Build Upon the Foundation They Laid," we not only honor the contributions of those who have paved the way, but also ignite a call to action for a future where justice serves all communities of our diverse world.   Mr. Levelle served on the Oregon State Bar Board of Governors for three years and served as its first African American President in 2017. In his role as President,  Michael’s focus was to promote equity, inclusion, and access to justice for underrepresented and at risk communities.    He was appointed by the Oregon Supreme Court as a pro tempore judge in the circuit court for the State of Oregon in August 2022.  Michael currently serves in the Washington County Circuit Court Probate Department as a Pro Tem Judge. Michael is actively involved in championing the Oregon Mediation Diversity Project, a collaborative initiative aimed at addressing the lack of diversity within the mediation profession in the State of Oregon. As we reflect on the achievements of individuals, it's crucial to remember that Black experiences and history are not confined to a single month. While Black History Month provides a dedicated time to celebrate and honor the contributions of Black Americans, our commitment to equality and justice must extend far beyond February. Let us use this moment to reaffirm our dedication to building a more inclusive and equitable society. Together, let us honor the past, celebrate the present, and strive towards a future where the principles of diversity, equity and justice continue to grow for generations to come.

Oregon Black History: We Build Upon the Foundation They Laid. This month we honor Oregonians who stand as pillars of inspiration, reminding us that perseverance in the pursuit of equality is an ongoing journey. This week we honor Judge Ancer Haggerty. After his many years of service and commitment to justice as a Judge to the Multnomah County District and Circuit Courts.  In 1994, Judge Haggerty became the first African American appointed to the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. He served as a mentor to countless law students and attorneys. His mentorship and public service has spanned generations and is a testament to his leadership and commitment to justice for all. “We Build Upon the Foundation They Laid," serves as both a tribute and a rallying cry for a future where justice knows no bounds.
