Last week, Life Science Cares New York Board Members had the incredible opportunity to dive into Schrödinger's innovative platform and programs. Schrödinger is pushing the boundaries of computational chemistry, molecular modeling, and drug discovery and materials design. From their state-of-the-art platform that helps scientists model complex molecular structures to the impact they’re making on drug discovery programs, we left inspired by their contributions to the field. Thank you to the Schrödinger team Alex Schuman, MBA, Sasha Varasano, Geoffrey P., Robert Abel, Wu Yin, and Jennifer Chambers for hosting such a dynamic session, and to everyone who joined us! #LifeSciences #DrugDiscovery #Innovation #LunchAndLearn #ComputationalChemistry #Schrödinger #LifeScienceCaresNY

Over 115 Roivant Sciences employees, including some who traveled from as far as England, joined forces last Tuesday to beautify Soundview Park with The Bronx is Blooming! The Bronx is Blooming is a nonprofit based in the Bronx, focused on environmental stewardship, youth leadership, and community building. Since 2011, they’ve trained and employed more than 480 Bronx youth, who, along with 24,000+ volunteers, have contributed 175,000+ service hours, caring for 20,000+ trees across 20+ parks and green spaces in the Bronx. Soundview Park, known as the Gateway to the Bronx River, spans 205 acres and offers critical wildlife habitat, recreational areas, and beautiful green space for the Southern Bronx community. Thank you John Vallacchi for your leadership in making the day a seamless success! Roivant, founded in 2014, aims to improve the lives of patients by accelerating the development and commercialization of medicines that matter. A huge thank you to your team for their enthusiasm, dedication, and hard work, which helped us surpass our goals for tree planting and stewardship! Special shoutout to Katie Koprowski and Laura Tirado, we truly appreciate your collaboration and the incredible group of people you brought together! Unhoused youth graduate at a significantly lower rate than students with stable housing as the barriers to education are often insurmountable. The Monarch School Project has been on a mission to remove these obstacles and provide a sense of belonging for thousands of unhoused youth and their families in San Diego since 1987. In this month’s episode of our podcast #MovingForwardGivingBack, Monarch’s President and CEO, Afira Arrastia-DeVries, sits down with LSC’s San Diego Executive Director Alicia Quinn Kitagawa to discuss Monarch’s unique community school model, which provides a range of vital services beyond just academics - from mental health support to basic needs assistance. This can’t-miss discussion also touches on the importance of dignity, respect and asset-based approaches when working with vulnerable populations, as well as Monarch’s new training program that aims to equip educators across California with the trauma-informed and restorative practices. We had an incredible day at Marsh's beautiful Morristown office last Thursday! Eleven amazing women came together to assemble nearly 100 backpacks full of school supplies for middle and high school students. Thanks to Marsh’s generosity, LSC NY was able to partner with #Supply4kids to support the Dover NJ school district. This event showcased the power of teamwork and the importance of giving back to our communities. THANK YOU to Daphne Karydas from Supply4kids, Brunilda Pantoja from Dover school district and Laura Regnault from Marsh for making this event a success. We are grateful for your partnership and look forward to creating more impact together in the future! If you’re a life sciences company in NY or NJ interested in organizing your own volunteering event, get in touch with anna.perrotti@lifesciencecares.org to learn more. #BackToSchool #LifeScienceCares #DoverNJ #Volunteering

CONGRATULATIONS, Project Onramp interns! Our 2024 cohort spent the morning at the NYSE celebrating the end of their summer internships this past Thursday. These future changemakers spoke about who their host companies were and what they enjoyed most about their experiences, got a tour of the trading floor (and witnessed the ringing of the bell), and got to post their dreams on the hashtag #MakeYourMark wall courtesy of 3M! The Life Science Cares New York team is endlessly proud of every single one of you and we cannot wait to hear about the amazing things you will all accomplish. A special shoutout to Johanna (Rodriguez) Grossman, PhD and her incredible colleagues at the NYSE for making this day possible for our students! If you are a life sciences organization interested in hosting one of our fabulous interns next summer, please reach out to anna.perrotti@lifesciencecares.org. #makeyourmark #projectonramp #STEMinterns #lifesciences #NYSE
