I delivered two truckloads of pumpkins to Latin School in Gold Coast and Brennemann Elementary in Buena Park this week. The students will be carving and painting the pumpkins to be displayed at the Lincoln Park Conservancy's Boo - Tanical Bash this Thursday, October 24. Visit the Lincoln Park Conservatory tomorrow to experience a multichannel sound installation by Experimental Sound Studio. “The World Doubles in Size” by Macie Stewart, located in the Fern Room of the Lincoln Park Conservatory, features an acoustic set of music compiled of field recordings taken all around Chicago documenting the sounds of summer. Please join us at 2:00pm for a special performance featuring Macie and Lia Kohl, who will play an acoustic set of music leading into the playback of the audio installation. “The sounds of the Chicago river, summer storms, conversations, cicadas, violin, and voice, are all featured throughout the piece in varying levels of processing. This bed of recordings creates a soundscape in which nature and the sounds of the city can be improvised alongside- a collaborator that is always present. Loosely inspired by the Mary Oliver poem, “Hurricane”, from the compilation, “A Thousand Mornings”, the piece plays with comparing the shifting of the seasons with the ever evolving nature of the self.” On View: Sunday 2pm, September 22, 2024 - Sunday, November 24, 2024 Exhibition hours: open daily, 10am – 5pm Fern Room at Lincoln Park Conservatory 2391 N. Immerse yourself in nature by participating in the Conservancy's second BioBlitz event on September 28th, where we’ll explore the diverse wildlife of Lincoln Park. A BioBlitz is a communal citizen-science effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible. We’ll work together to document the location of as many living things as possible and use this information to guide the future management of our natural areas and gardens.
