Stephanie A.N. Levin BS, MBA is an example of perseverance and positivity and an example of why I have the best job in the world as publisher working with authors like her.
Management Assistant of Student Affairs & Alumni Engagement at Rowan-Virtua SOM |Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) Candidate| Author of Picking Up the Pieces: Finding my Way as a Visually Impaired Woman in Higher Education
First of all, I want to thank Allison Gainer,M.A., NCC,LAC for posting such a beautiful message of love and support for this incredible project that I have been working on for several months. Ten to twelve years ago, I endured two retinal detachments that significantly impacted me in more ways than one. My experience was filled with peaks and valleys, and it made me question my identity and my self-perception. It took years for me to come to terms with what had happened to me, and essentially, I had to pick up the pieces and move forward as someone who has a visual impairment. Today, I am more than honored to announce that I have been working on a concise course book that will seek to educate others about disability within higher education with a specific focus on visual impairments. Also, within this book, I will tell you the entire story of my eye journey from start to finish. I will tell you the story of who I once was, and who I am today. Below is the link to my forthcoming book, Picking Up the Pieces: Finding My Way as a Visually Impaired Woman in Higher Education: https://lnkd.in/edpPWA9w I would also like to extend a special thank you to Lived Places Publishing for taking a chance on me, and for providing me with this life-changing opportunity. My hope is that my story will help to raise awareness pertaining to disability, and I want nothing more than to see equitable change take place within higher education❤️

Lived Places Publishing author Sarah Eisner challenges us to consider how our history is with us today and the work we can do today to correct the missteps of our ancestors. "My Keller ancestors enslaved dozens of humans in South Carolina and Georgia, including Randy’s ancestors, Zeike and Grace Quarterman. These Kellers also considered themselves patriots and “good white christians”. Certainly they were patriots--white christian nationalists--at least to their southern nation, though they were traitors to the United States, evidenced by their fight and ranks within the Confederate army." We are pleased to introduce our new collection editor for Asian Studies, yongtao du, "Books in the Asian Studies Collection present stories of such human experiences in Asia, with an emphasis on their embeddedness in place. Such places could vary in scale and nature: Physical places, virtual places, and even imagined places. They may reach beyond the geographical confines of Asia as well, for instance Asian diasporic communities." https://lnkd.in/ettFf_bY #publishing #libraries #teachingandlearning

Documenting her journey from childhood and diagnosis to adulthood, Lived Places Publishing author Kimberley F. explores the challenge she has faced living with Dyspraxia. An invisible disability with challenges that evolve as life progresses, Kimberley highlights areas where her life has been affected, including education, employment, and well-being, and argues that it is not the disability itself, but a lack of awareness that leads to frequent misunderstandings and inadequate support for many. Lived Places Publishing reposted this
It has been a pleasure to work with Lived Places Publishing to publish this #OpenAccess course-aligned textbook. In this book I draw on data capturing the lived experiences of students with mental health difficulties and explore key issues such as: - The sustainability of a widening participation strategy for higher education in an environment of chronic underfunding, - The efficacy of the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) when 70% of students availing of the scheme come from affluent or advantaged backgrounds, - The strengths and limitations of a disability approach to the inclusion of students with mental health difficulties, - Fitness to Practise implications for students on professional courses who struggle with their mental health, - What universities can do to support students with mental health difficulties, and - The value of lived experience as a form of knowledge. I also share, for the first time, my entire methodology for researching lived experience.
Lived Places Publishing announces our second Open Access title, completely publisher-funded, no extra cost to libraries or authors: How can universities better support students who are struggling with their mental health? https://lnkd.in/eMdC9D72 #openaccess #teachingandlearning #publishing #libraries
