For Workers, For Employers, For Communities, For US

About us

For US certifies U.S. employers that pay their workers and essential subcontractors a living wage based on real costs of living. And we have a custom tool that assesses total remuneration, inclusive of benefits and other pay forms, to truly understand the myriad of ways a worker might ensure a living wage for its workforce. More than that, we create a community to support employers in understanding how to pay living wages in a way that benefits workers, employers, and communities. We engage consumers and other interested stakeholders through social media, telling the positive stories of those whose lives are affected by higher wages and building the business case for living wage payment. We use research to navigate the impacts of policy changes on how workers can achieve a decent living, creating a space where solid research leads to strong action. Our Standard was developed through a consultative process convened by Oxfam America, which included unions, labor advocates, leading employers, and gender justice organizations. We have sought to ensure that affected workers and employer champions had a strong voice in the process. We join in solidarity with all of you who believe that hard work should ensure a decent living, and celebrate the employers, investors, and organizations who are leading the way.

𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗠𝗮𝗽 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱! On Thursday 17 October we will hold the first of six public sessions to collect stakeholder feedback on the development of a Living Wage Reference Standard. The target audience for this session are multinationals, small & medium size businesses, buyers, suppliers, investors, business associations, trade intermediaries etc. Later sessions will target workers, civil society, government, and be held at times more convenient for other time zones. You can join for a whole session or any part of it. 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗪𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗥𝗗? The purpose of the Living Wage Reference Standard is to serve as a ‘North Star’, compelling organisations, including WageMap consortium members and other living wage data providers and implementation organisations, to continually strive for improvement in their living wage calculation methodologies. The overarching goal will be to create external confidence in living wage estimates by having a stakeholder-consulted standard, agreed upon by the consortium members, that allows users to understand international comparability and local specificity so that they can confidently implement living wages consistently around the world. 𝗣𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗖 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗗 WageMap is committed to an inclusive and transparent review process and is seeking input from all stakeholders impacted by the implementation of the Living Wage Reference Standard. There will be two rounds of public consultation, the first running from 17th October to 20th November 2024 and the second from March-April 2025. All comments received during each consultation period will be made publicly available (or summarised accurately), and WageMap will explain how each material issue raised was considered during refinement of the Standard. • Check out this new piece on why the next U.S. President should ensure Americans can earn a living wage. Written by our founder, Michelle Murray. And share this widely if you care about living wages being a part of our future discourse across the U.S.! #livingwage

I've been arguing for a long time that there is not enough focus on living wages in the U.S. despite the fact that it is a bipartisan issue. Take a look at my recent Newsweek opinion piece and support me in sharing this message more widely so that we can make the topic of living wage for working Americans visible in this election and beyond! #livingwage #LW4US https://lnkd.in/e5H-vP9a

We are often asked why employers choose to commit to living wage payment. I think that question is best answered by our employers themselves. They understand that paying a living wage is better for workers, but also better for businesses and communities. So happy to see Onyx Coffee Lab sharing that view and their own motivations for becoming a Leading Living Wage Plus Employer as an example for others in Arkansas! https://lnkd.in/ebBkKz4v

Today, many countries celebrate International Workers’ Day to commemorate the historic struggles and gains made by workers and the labor movement. Living Wage For US’ vision of a world where every family can afford a decent standard of living and every worker is fairly compensated without prejudice can only be accomplished if we collaborate with likeminded organizations within the U.S. and around the world. LW4US supports the global living wage movement as a member of The Global Living Wage Affiliate Network, launched in 2022 with Living Wage Foundation and Living Wage Aotearoa New Zealand, offering employers a multi-country living wage certification. This recognizes employers that achieve living wage payments to workers in operations across 3 countries while respecting the value of local living wage campaigns. Together with BSR, Loughborough University, Living Wage Foundation, NewForesight, and WageIndicator Foundation, we launched the WageMap consortium in 2023 to develop a credible, globally accepted standard for best practice in calculating living wage. Our goal is to publish a single database of public, globally comparable, locally specific living wage benchmarks to support implementation. Taking the guesswork out of identifying aligned living wage data sets that meet best practices. We are honored to make living wage a reality alongside our partners and strengthen the labor movement. If you would benefit from quality living wage data everywhere around the world, contact us today at info@livingwageforus.org. Your support and engagement will help us accelerate the quality completion of work through WageMap. #livingwage #internationalworkersday #labourday
