It was great to see 17 promising sustainability-focused startups pitch at ClimateFest, a day highlighting startups from the Just Transition accelerator we funded and delivered with our friends Startup Discovery School! “History is full of examples of transition, and unfortunately, those stories are split into the winners – those who were prepared, whether that be through access to capital or education – and losers, those who got left behind” said Gosbert Chagula MBE in his opening remarks, explaining the programme’s mission of supporting diverse businesses to make the sustainability space more equitable. We then heard from Kieron Boyle, chief executive of the Impact Investing Institute, who emphasised that a “just” transition isn’t a choice – it’s the only viable path forward. With two stages and numerous workshops and panel discussions across the day, it was a high-energy event with a lot of optimism for what these companies will go on to achieve.
