A team of LSU researchers has been tasked with helping the US Navy and United States Marine Corps make the transformation to Distributed Maritime Operations (DMO), which would allow the two military branches to move beyond traditional reliance on a few large vessels and instead emphasize a distributed network of smaller naval platforms that enhance presence and awareness in vital maritime regions. The project is funded by a grant of nearly $10 million from the Office of Naval Research and is the product of a collaboration between LSU and Integer Technologies LLC Technologies, a science and technology company founded to support U.S. national security customers by equipping them with world-class technology. #WBTTW https://lnkd.in/gMnRCUhx

Prior to this summer, LSU Computer Science PhD student Taha Gharaibeh had never won a Best Paper award, which is typically given in recognition of the quality and impact of the published work. Over the last two months, he’s changed that, winning Best Paper awards at the DFRWS (Digital Forensic Research Workshop) USA 2024 Conference, held at LSU this year, and the ARES Conference in Vienna, Austria. Congratulations to Taha and his PhD advisor Ibrahim (Abe) Baggili! https://lnkd.in/gtQ9Z-rd

Hey LSU College of Engineering ME/EE/ECE Capstone Seniors, do you have what it takes to win our inaugural Small Uncrewed Surface Vessel (sUSV) Competition? Integer Technologies has recently opened an office on the campus of Louisiana State University to conduct research in the area of #MaritimeRobotics and we are hosting a competition between two teams to design and build the best sUSV as part of the Senior Design Capstone program. Seniors will spend the year designing and fabricating a sUSV with support and guidance from Integer engineers, while gaining direct insights on local and regional opportunities to start your career! At the end of the year, we will host a competition between the teams to crown the Inaugural sUSV Champion of the Bayou State! Sign up today through the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Capstone Program and let's build something great together! Pictured below, William Ard and Benjamin Lee from Integer join Dr. Dimitris E. Nikitopoulos, LSU Department Chair of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, to present the senior capstone design competition to LSU engineering students. Before, during, and after of the 49th playground built by the LSU Community Playground Project. This latest build was done at the Belle Rose Public Library with the help of the LSU AgCenter Healthy Communities Initiative, the Assumption Parish Police Jury, and the citizens of Belle Rose, LA. Thanks, also, to our alumni-some of whom traveled in from Houston and Atlanta-who worked on the build: Cole Diez, Eli Barbin, Lauren Hynson, Joe Zerkus, Shane Vallery, Jamelyn Crockett, and of course BE Department Chair Marybeth Lima. #WBTTW

LSU Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Thomas Lin is our latest National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award winner this year. His current research project explores the use of 3D soil printing to create earthen buildings as a future housing solution. And it's all based on the lessons learned from fungal root systems and mud dauber nests! #WBTTW https://lnkd.in/gMtRSjVp

LSU Civil and Environmental Engineering Associate Professor Chao Sun and a team of researchers are examining a potential clean energy source, floating offshore wind turbines, to understand how it performs under operational conditions and in the face of extreme weather conditions like hurricanes. The project is funded by a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation. #WBTTW LSU College of the Coast & Environment https://lnkd.in/g2JnpuR5
