A key factor in minority mental health is inherited trauma—in other words, negative treatment in society from discrimination, immigration stressors, language barriers, displacement, etc. that has been passed down through generations. The realities of different cultures coexisting all inform mental health. “My roadblocks as a Cuban are going to be different than someone who came from Venezuela or Spain. Having someone that you can connect with is very important.” For Carlos Lindo (SVP of Legal & Compliance), the effort to improve mental health access for minority groups is deeply personal. Our team strives for care to be personalized, nuanced and as sensitive to the needs of each experience as possible — because treatment is only as successful as the patient-provider relationship. While seeking care for mental health should be treated with the same importance as physical health, connecting diverse patients to the right mental health care requires more nuance. Among adults with any mental illness, only 39% of Black adults, 36% of Hispanic adults, and 25% of Asian adults received mental health services compared to 52% of white adults. Cultural factors and a lack of diverse providers contribute to these persistent gaps. Our SVP of Legal and Compliance, Carlos Lindo, shares why it's crucial for health plans and care solutions to adopt an inclusive and culturally sensitive approach to deliver better outcomes for all: https://hubs.la/Q02GXvt30 #BehavioralHealth #MentalHealth #MinorityMentalHealthMatters

It's on us to stay educated about preferred terms and promote inclusive language whenever we can. We've worked hard on our Navigate & Connect solution, and now the Validation Institute has verified its cost-saving benefits for health plans. Our year-long analysis, validated in our 2024 Validation Institute Report, demonstrates how members navigated to care through Navigate & Connect had lower total medical expenses and fewer hospital admissions than those who found care on their own. Lucet facilitated a $227 per member per month reduction in total medical expenses for 12 months — or $8 million in total cost avoidance. “But for my mom and I being there, helping and translating, he may have been misdiagnosed and missed out on opportunities.” Carlos Lindo (SVP of Legal & Compliance) witnessed his grandfather, a native of Cuba, struggle with a language barrier in the hospital that may have prevented him from receiving the right mental health care. These challenges are frustratingly common for minority families in our behavioral health system, but by prioritizing increased access and connections to diverse providers, we can help change that. If you're a behavioral health professional, it's likely you've come across these common myths about implementing measurement-based care (MBC): 1️⃣ Completing assessments is a burden ❌ 2️⃣ MBC creates admin challenges ❌ 3️⃣ Payers can't scale MBC in their provider network ❌ 4️⃣ MBC tools don't account for variation in clinical presentation ❌ The truth is, integrated assessment technology has come a long way to address these perceived issues. Read takeaways from our recent webinar with Liz Jones (VP, Clinical Strategy) and Dr. Adam Ligas (Med. Dir.) or watch their full presentation: https://hubs.la/Q02FJ6p40 #BehavioralHealth #MentalHealth #MBC #MeasurementBasedCare
