✈️ 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤: 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 ✈️ 📍 Last week, Luther Vietnam had the honour of hosting a distinguished Bavarian hospitality and tourism delegation at our office in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. 🤍💙 Bavaria, officially known as the Free State of Bavaria, lies in southern Germany, bordering Austria, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. It is the largest German state by land area and has over 13 million inhabitants. With a gross national product of EUR 716.8 billion (2022), Bavaria's economy ranks seventh within the EU. Bavaria is also one of Europe’s most popular and scenic travel destinations, with spectacular mountains and magnificent castles that represent its rich history and cultural heritage. The state is also famous for hosting the world’s largest beer festival – Oktoberfest in the capital of Munich – which has resonated worldwide, including in Vietnam. 🔁 As Germany's innovation hub, Munich’s exceptional innovation ecosystem attracts not only major tech companies, but also outstanding talents from around the globe. The new flight connection between Munich and Vietnam (Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh City) creates plenty of leverage for Vietnam’s rising digital economy and promises mutual profits from frequent exchanges. 👀 Our guests enjoyed the view of Vietnam’s rapidly developing southern metropolis from the 25th floor while exchanging ideas on the evolving landscape of tourism between Vietnam and Germany. Vietnam Airlines' new direct routes to Munich raise ambitions of increased in- and outbound tourism and tie Vietnam in closer with the world. 🌍 🤝 The delegation, hosted by Mr. Peter Kompalla, Chief Representative of AHK Vietnam - Delegation of the German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam, included leading representatives from both the aviation and hospitality sectors: 🌟 Mr. Martin Gundolf – Geschäftsführer, Tiroler Abend in Innsbruck 🌟 Mr. Benedikt Brandmeier – Leiter Tourismus, Events und Hospitality, Landeshauptstadt München 🌟 Mr. Marc C. Wachal – General Manager, Westin Grand Munich, Four Points Munich, Aloft Munich, Residence Inn Munich 🌟 Mr. Oliver Sikora – Director Sales and Marketing, Pullman Munich Hotel 🌟 Mr. Patrick Wagner – Sales and Marketing, Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG 🌟 Mr. Harald Brunnhuber – CEO, KulturGut AG 🌟 Mr. Florian Poetsch – Director Route and Passenger Development, Munich Airport 🔑 This visit unlocks further pathways for collaboration and strengthens ties between Vietnam and Bavaria. 🌟 We were especially delighted to welcome Munich Airport for the second time to continue the dialogue on advancing tourism and economic connectivity. ✉ For expert legal guidance on doing business in Vietnam or to arrange a consultation with our team, please reach out to us at: vietnam@luther-lawfirm.com 💻 Visit our website: https://lnkd.in/gtrC_8-y #LutherVietnam #Legal #Tax

💧 𝐀 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧 - 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦’𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐱 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 🌏 🌱 Leif D. Schneider, Luther Vietnam’s Country Head was honoured to join the EuroCham Vietnam’s Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2024 as a moderator on a panel discussing the "𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 & 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫: 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬, 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬". This topic is of particular importance to Vietnam’s sustainable development and thus spiked the keen interest of a broad range of spectators, across several industries and attracted many stakeholders in the water supply and wastewater ecosystem. 🎙 The distinguished panel featured international speakers from major companies, including: 🔸 Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage, 🔸 WWF-Viet Nam , and 🔸 Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH 🎯 The ensuing discussion emphasised the significance of the 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑, which imposes stricter regulations focusing on sustainable water use and environmental protection. New requirements for water use permits and penalties for pollution are driving businesses to adopt more responsible practices and invest in water-saving technologies. ♻️ The 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 & 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 introduces tougher standards for water supply and wastewater treatment, presenting challenges for compliance while also opening opportunities for innovation in areas like water recycling and treatment solutions that align with global sustainability trends. 🤝Despite this positive trend, Vietnam faces several major challenges, for example in the area of infrastructure development and financing for green and sustainable projects. The panelists thus agreed that interdisciplinary collaboration between industries, government, and financial institutions will be key to overcoming these obstacles and advancing sustainable water solutions across the country. ✅ For further insights and expert advice on business strategic initiatives for a Green Transition, our team of legal and tax advisers is here to assist you. 💡 𝐋𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦'𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 ⚡ We are excited to present the September 2024 edition of the Luther Vietnam Newsletter, featuring key regulatory updates that are reshaping the business and legal landscape for foreign investors and local enterprises. 🎯 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞: 🔶 Intermediary Payment Services (“IPS”) Reforms: Recent regulatory changes, specifically Decree 52/2024 and Circular 40/2024 from the State Bank of Vietnam, mark a pivotal moment for the intermediary payment services sector. These new rules outline clearer guidelines for IPS providers, with a focus on enhancing safety, expanding cross-border transaction capabilities, and enforcing stricter compliance measures. As Vietnam's e-commerce market continues to grow, businesses must adapt to these changes to ensure seamless digital transactions. 🔶 Amendments to the Law on Pharmaceuticals: Vietnam’s healthcare sector is undergoing crucial reforms with proposed amendments to the 2016 Law on Pharmaceuticals. These amendments are designed to bolster drug distribution, emergency preparedness, and innovation in pharmaceuticals. By encouraging foreign investment and improving emergency drug production, Vietnam aims to position itself as a regional hub for pharmaceuticals. Companies in this sector should be prepared for new compliance requirements as these changes come into effect. 🔶 New Law on Water Resources: In response to increasing concerns about water scarcity and environmental sustainability, Vietnam has introduced a new Law on Water Resources, effective July 2024. This law imposes stricter controls on water usage, mandates sustainable practices, and promotes investments in circular water systems. Businesses in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and infrastructure must comply with these updated regulations to avoid penalties and contribute to Vietnam's sustainable water management efforts. 🔶 Vietnam Social Insurance Law Revisions: Set to take effect in July 2025, Vietnam’s revised social insurance law aims to address current system gaps by expanding coverage, enforcing compulsory contributions, and introducing harsher penalties for evasion. The new law will also offer electronic records to streamline administrative processes. Employers should evaluate how these changes impact their workforce and prepare for the new compliance landscape. 📌 Read full newsletter at: https://lnkd.in/gqxnvHen 🔗 Subscribe now to keep up with our latest legal updates: https://lnkd.in/d5uwBiEe ℹ Contact Us At Luther Vietnam, our team of legal and tax experts is ready to assist you in navigating these regulatory changes. 📝 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐱 𝐇𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 🍺 🥂 Significant impact on the beverage industry expected! ⚠ 💥 The Vietnamese government has proposed to increase the special consumption tax (SCT) on alcoholic and sweetened beverages. The introduction of the so-called “sugar tax” is poised to shake up the Vietnamese beverage segment and challenge the business-as-usual in the domestic market. The impact of the proposed tax increases on alcoholic and sugary drinks in Vietnam is an ongoing concern for the stakeholders in the industry. 🎯 In a recent feature published in the prestigious Vietnam Economic Times, Luther Vietnam’s Counsel, Leif D. Schneider, provides an in-depth analysis of this pressing issue. Leif discusses the potential implications of these tax hikes, which could reverberate across the entire supply chain — from producers and distributors to retailers and F&B businesses. These sectors are already grappling with the ripple effects of Vietnam's recent crack-down on drunk driving. The new taxation matrix is likely to put additional strain on production and sales of the targeted drinks. 🔍 In his analysis, Leif delves into the multifaceted challenges that the proposed SCT increases could pose for key stakeholders in Vietnam's beverage establishment. By drawing on both economic theory and practical case studies, Leif sheds light on the broader implications, offering an adviser’s perspective that helps to gauge this complex issue. 🔑 Understanding the complex interplay between governmental policy and business operations is crucial. As such, Luther Vietnam will continue to closely monitor these tax developments, providing you with legal advice and strategic recommendations tailored to your needs. 💡 For individual consultation, please contact our experts at 📧 vietnam@luther-lawfirm.com or 💻 by visiting our website at https://lnkd.in/gtrC_8-y.
