What we are witnessing is genocidal violence against Palestinians in Gaza. As the world watches, we reflect on our commitment to justice, humanity, and a peaceful future; we must also act NOW. Read our full statement: MADRE.org/palestine/

During #ClimateWeek2024, WEDO was thrilled to join The Shine Collab, MADRE, Ford Foundation and the Wallace Global Fund to host a dialogue among donors, advocates and movement leaders from across the gender, climate, human rights and development sectors. Together, we dove into powerful case studies — from Zimbabwe, South Africa, India and the US — and power-centered policy analysis, exploring the challenges and opportunities for delivering a transformational just energy transition. In this context, philanthropy must play a pivotal role by partnering with communities and advocates, advancing people-centered, rights-based, and systems-change approaches. As top-down technological solutions, often accompanied by displacement and destruction, remain the status quo, we must instead pursue a gender-just transition—one that literally and democratically puts power in the hands of the people. As we continue the conversation and collaboration across donors, advocates, activists, and practitioners around a #GenderJustEnergyTransition, we invite you to share your current work and priorities in this follow-up survey: https://lnkd.in/ejYzCbQX We are eager to think together about upcoming opportunities for generating resources, sharing knowledge and experience, and working across movement spaces and organizations after this powerful event. #FeministClimateJustice #ClimateJustice #GenderJustice #ClimateChange #JustTransition

For millions worldwide, midwives provide life-saving care for parents and infants. In Palestine, midwives have never been needed more, even as they risk their own lives to do their jobs. "Women around the world have the right to a safe pregnancy and birth… Unfortunately, in Palestine, we don't have that luxury." — Aisha Saifi (Midwife, Co-founder of Midwives of Peace, and MADRE Partner) In a new documentary by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), with the support of award-winning filmmaker Lynzy Billings, we witness the struggles of midwives in the West Bank and the families they strive to protect. 📺 WATCH NOW: "Navigating Birth and Conflict in the West Bank" https://lnkd.in/evbfCanz

As bombs fall across the Middle East, with escalations in Lebanon, Israel, Syria, Yemen, and Palestine, we are reminded that war is always a choice — and a different choice must be made now. Today, countless lives across the region depend on policymakers, including in the United States, prioritizing diplomacy, human rights, and accountability over warfare and retaliation. Bombs cannot create security, only erode and destroy it. MADRE condemns this US-fueled escalation in violence and redoubles our commitment to our local partners, whose community-driven peacebuilding is the key to attaining the security that all people need. We stand with human rights advocates around the world in demanding that the US end arms sales to Israel, commit to real diplomacy, and advocate for an immediate and permanent ceasefire now.

As the International Criminal Court's conviction decision is appealed, this is an opportunity for courts to recognize gender persecution in conflict. “[Judges are] acknowledging it’s misogyny driving rape, driving sexual slavery, driving forced marriage or torture.” https://bit.ly/3N8geoY
