Since pervasive discrimination often puts trans candidates at a disadvantage compared to their cis counterparts, affirmative action initiatives targeting the queer community have emerged as a ray of hope. The India Workplace Equality Index 2023, managed by a group of companies, celebrates workplaces that prioritizes diversity and inclusion, especially focusing on LGBTQIA+ initiatives. But the real question is: Are these workplaces truly creating safe and non-biased environments for the trans community after they are hired? Read this article to dive deeper into the reality of workplace inclusivity and the impact of these initiatives. #maitribayarea #TransRights #WorkplaceEquality #LGBTQIA #InclusionMatters #AffirmativeAction #safety #EndGenderBasedViolence

National Nonprofit Day was established to recognize the impact of nonprofits on their communities and the world. On this special day, we are celebrating Maitri’s journey in empowering South Asian survivors of domestic violence to lead lives of dignity and self-sufficiency through holistic programs and enabling healthy relationships and gender equity through community education, engagement, and advocacy. We are grateful that our community always bestowed enormous trust and support in our work and offered many awards and recognition for our impact on the community. We are heartbroken and outraged by the brutal sexual assault and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata, India last week. This horrific crime is a stark reminder of the violence women face daily around the world. It’s deeply frustrating to see these tragedies continue, and as a society, we must ask ourselves: how can we bring about real change? Yesterday, Tejeswi Dodda, our Maitri Self-Sufficiency Coordinator, joined other activists on a KPFA podcast to express our collective grief and frustration over this heinous act and similar atrocities. We urge our community to take a stand and play an active role in preventing violence against women. Let’s come together and be the change we want to see. Tejeswi’s interview begins at 24:38 minutes in the link. https://lnkd.in/gQ8Af3Sn #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #JusticeForWomen #KPFA #Kolkata #TejeswiDodda #SexualViolence #endsexualviolence #maitribayarea #indiarapecase #Narika

A study shows that in attempted homicides by an intimate partner, 45% of victims had been strangled before the attempted murder. Researchers in the study, including Jacquelyn Campbell, who developed the Danger Assessment tool in 1987, determined that being strangled by a partner even one time increases a victim’s risk of homicide by that perpetrator by over 600 percent. Read this article to learn the impact of strangulation and what one can do to save life in the moment during a violent strangulation. #maitribayarea, #endDV, #Strangulation #DVhomicide
