In our latest interview with Asfaq Jalal, the CEO and Co-founder of QPo Cabs, he shared how the student-led startup is disrupting the ride-hailing industry with creativity and innovation. Ashfaq, a former participant in the Invention Factory program, has rapidly gained traction, reaching 200 users and 30 drivers in just one month. His journey began with a passion for solving real-world problems, which was nurtured during his time in the program. Now, QPo Cabs offers affordable ride-sharing services by picking up multiple passengers, providing an alternative to traditional ride-hailing apps. Their early success was driven by guerrilla marketing efforts in local autos and buses, and today, Ashaq and his team are focused on making commuting easier and more affordable for local communities. 'We’re serious about building something transformative and need the community's support to take it further,' Asfaq shared during the interview. QPpo Cabs is proof that innovation, determination, and a strong vision—fostered through programs like Invention Factory—can empower students to turn bold ideas into meaningful change. #Innovation #Technology

In May 2023, the Tinkerers' Laboratory at ICT opened its doors, marking the beginning of a new chapter in hands-on engineering education. Generously supported by Alkyl Amines Chemicals Limited, this lab quickly became a space where students could tinker, create, and innovate. It didn’t take long for the lab to buzz with activity, filled with eager minds exploring new technologies and building practical solutions. A perfect example of this spirit was the recently concluded LPB02 Automation with Arduino program, held in collaboration with LEAP. With over 35 students participating, the program was a new and exciting experience for most, igniting their curiosity and passion for automation. Teams worked with actuators like LEDs, servo motors, buzzers, and relays, while experimenting with a range of sensors, including temperature/humidity, ultrasonic, infrared (IR), passive infrared (PIR), sound, touch, and light-dependent resistors (LDRs). By the end of the program, students had built their own automation systems, such as intruder alarms, object detection, and touch-sensitive buzzer/light switches. Some students went a step further, creating more complex automation systems using multiple sensors and actuators. They were encouraged to continue experimenting in the MBF Tinkerers Lab and explore process control systems related to their fields of study, taking full advantage of the equipment available. Prof. Anand V. Patwardhan, Dean-AP at ICT, visited one of the sessions and interacted with students. Impressed by their work with the ultrasonic sensor (for object detection) and the LDR (for light intensity detection), he encouraged them to apply their newfound knowledge outside of class while staying focused on their core studies. Special thanks go to Prof. V. Dalvi and his team for their exceptional coordination and support throughout the program, ensuring its smooth execution and enriching the student experience. #Technology #Innovation #Learning Kirat Patel Timothy Gonsalves Matthew D'Cunha
