As the world accelerates towards a sustainable energy future, the shift away from fossil fuels is vital in the fight against #ClimateChange. Yet, this transition poses significant challenges, particularly for communities reliant on traditional energy industries. Job displacement and economic uncertainty are real concerns as regions navigate the shift to a low-carbon economy. But at Malta Inc., we believe that the energy transition can be an opportunity—not just for the planet, but for people too. 🏭 Repurposing Coal and Fossil Plants for a Cleaner Future 🏭 Coal and fossil plants, often seen as stranded assets, have the potential for new life. Instead of dismantling these plants, Malta’s long-duration energy storage (#LDES) technology can transform them into #EnergyStorageHubs that store excess renewable energy and dispatch it when needed. With their existing grid connections and strategic locations, these sites are perfectly suited for this role, creating a seamless pathway from fossil fuel dependency to renewable integration. Malta's approach to fossil plant repurposing integrates our charge and storage modules with existing plant infrastructure. This extends the operational life of fossil fuel plants, offering a smoother transition toward a greener #EnergyFuture. By adapting existing assets for #EnergyStorage, we preserve investments while aligning them with a decarbonized grid. This also enables the transition of otherwise-displaced workforces into the green economy, creating a pathway to new, sustainable roles. 🔧 Combined Cycle Power Plant Optimization 🔧 Malta's system enhances traditional power generation by integrating green generation steam from storage directly into combined cycle or steam power plants. This makes operations cleaner and more efficient, significantly reducing their #CarbonFootprint while improving overall plant economics. This integration not only boosts efficiency but also allows a more reliable deployment of renewable energy sources into the grid, supporting a smoother #EnergyTransition. 🌱 Revitalizing Economies and Ensuring a #JustTransition 🌱 At Malta, we engage responsibly with the communities that host our projects, working closely with local stakeholders, governments, and financial institutions to ensure that the energy transition is both environmentally sound and economically inclusive. Our projects bring substantial investment into local communities, retrain workers, and provide new opportunities in the #GreenEconomy. By turning coal plants and fossil fuel infrastructure into engines of innovation, we help build sustainable #EnergyEcosystems while fostering long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with the communities we serve. No one should be left behind in this shift to #CleanEnergy. The shift to clean energy is inevitable, but how we navigate it will shape the future. Let’s repurpose, reimagine, and rebuild—together. 💚 #ESG 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dQWrZwrU

Germany is making significant strides toward its renewable energy future with the launch of a new public consultation on the Supply Security of Generation Plants Law, 'Kraftwerkssicherheitsgesetz' https://lnkd.in/dKj_ymRY. This law, spearheaded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) https://lnkd.in/derdKQuh, aims to bolster energy reliability through capacity auctions for clean technologies and long-duration energy storage (LDES) scheduled for 2025 and 2026. It’s a key move in Germany’s commitment to a stronger, more resilient energy infrastructure with innovative solutions, targeting 13 GW of power plant capacity, including 500 MW of LDES with at least 72 hours of discharge capacity. 💡 What’s exciting? The technology-neutral approach enables all storage technologies and media to compete, creating an excellent opportunity for #LDES solutions like Malta Inc.’s thermo-electric energy storage system. With six years to reach commercial operation once awarded and favorable pre-qualification conditions, this initiative presents a meaningful chance to shape Germany's clean energy future—a journey that Malta Inc is ready to be a part of.   🔗 https://lnkd.in/dQ2j3Gu6 #EnergyTransition #LDES #RenewableEnergy #EnergyStorage #Germany #EnergySecurity

Congratulations to two of our portfolio companies who have been listed at finalists at the S&P Global Platts Energy Awards. Kudos to Team Malta Inc and Ramya Swaminathan for being named as a finalist in the category of Energy Transition – Emerging Technology of the Year. Decisive for the finalist nomination is Malta’s potential to transform the future of energy storage by providing grid scale long duration energy storage, resulting grid stability services and additional value creation from heat. Well done, Team GeoPura and Andrew Cunningham for being named as a finalist in the Rising Star Company category. Key for the nomination was the team’s dedication to transforming the energy sector through clean, renewable hydrogen solutions. We know that kicking off the green hydrogen economy is tough – but we are learning how to scale this one Hydrogen Power Unit at the time. Both Malta and Geopura are commercializing and scaling emerging energy technologies that are critical for the success of the energy transition. And both companies are pioneering how to get #FOAK projects of the ground and building track record for growth. It is a privilege for Siemens Energy to be working alongside both teams as technology partner and investor. Wishing all success to both teams for the finals! #makeitcount #climatetech #startups #corporateventuring

At the 4th International Workshop on Carnot Batteries (#IWCB), Malta Inc had the pleasure of being represented by two key voices: Michael Geyer, Managing Director, and Janina Hippler-Nettlau, Director of Project Execution. 🔋 Michael Geyer delivered a thought-provoking presentation on Malta Inc’s PHES Carnot Battery to #decarbonize existing coal and gas plants to cover residual load curve and secure grid flexibility services. 🔋 Janina Hippler-Nettlau discussed the Store2REPower project: High-temperature PHES as a decarbonized flexibility replacement for fossil power plants. The recurring theme of this year’s IWCB was the #flexibility and #integration of #CarnotBatteries. As Janina highlighted, one of the key advantages of these systems is their ability to interact seamlessly with other power and heat technologies—being able to absorb and supply both heat and electricity. This adaptability is not only crucial for operational flexibility but also plays a vital role in ensuring future revenue streams. We are excited to be at the forefront of #EnergyStorage innovation and contribute to the conversation on how Carnot Batteries can enable a more flexible, decarbonized energy system. Thanks to everyone involved in this important event, specially to the organizers Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), University of Stuttgart, and German Aerospace Center (DLR)
