Mamava designs, develops, and manufactures freestanding lactation pods for breastfeeding parents at work and on the go.

About us

Mamava designs freestanding lactation pods for breastfeeding parents at work and on the go. Mamava is the leading expert in lactation space design. Mamava celebrates and supports the 21st-century breastfeeding mama on-the-go with freestanding lactation pods, a mobile locator app, and an engaged digital community. Our mission is to create a healthier society through a changed cultural perception of pumping and nursing that affords every woman the opportunity to nurse her child regardless of her circumstances. Mamava is mama-owned, made in America, and a proud member of the B Corp community. A category creator, Mamava is working to ensure breastfeeding is a right for all mothers, and just not a privilege for the few. Federal, state, and municipal laws protect a breastfeeding mother’s right to pump at work in a non-bathroom space. Mamava’s freestanding, turnkey lactation pods are an easy way to come into compliance with lactation accommodation laws. Ever wonder about the folks behind the scenes at Mamava making sure that breastfeeding can be an accessible choice? Our team of 53 works hard every day to support Mamava’s mission to create a healthier society through infrastructure and support for breastfeeding. As a mission-oriented company, we also strive to walk the walk by creating a workplace culture that supports our core values. Here’s what some of our staff had to say about their favorite aspect of working at Mamava: “I feel extremely supported while also being given the autonomy I need to perform my role.” -Sara Hoover, Sales Development Representative “The incredible people! I love being part of a team that values both professional growth and personal connections.” -Jennifer Benton, Marketing Project Manager “I love that we truly live our core values instead of just talking about them. Also we get to do fun things at summer parties like draw breasts on cornhole boards. Who else can say that?” -Erin Flaherty, Account Manager Commitment, collaboration, empathy, optimism, playfulness, and a sense of humor. It’s the Mamava secret sauce. #BCorp #companyculture #femalefounders

When it comes to supporting maternal health, the U.S. has a loooong ways to go. Maternal mortality more than doubled between 1999 to 2019—defying the trend toward improvement around the world. Access to obstetric providers and birthing hospitals may be one reason. In fact, March of Dimes' 2024 report finds that more than 2.3 million reproductive aged women live in maternity care deserts and nearly 70% of birth centers are located in just 10 states. Mothers in America deserve better. https://lnkd.in/eUzfjmGV #maternalhealth #healthcare #maternitycare

Our cofounder, Christine Dodson,  joins "The Bodacious Optimist" to talk about Mamava’s leap into manufacturing and building a connected, supportive workforce. (Mamava Manufacturing is three years old!) 🎧 Listen to her conversation with Sascha Mayer about how we're making an impact for breastfeeding parents one step at a time. https://lnkd.in/eib7JXHT #TheBodaciousOptimist #podcast #femalefounders #manufacturing

Saturday was World Teachers' Day (THANK YOU, teachers!) But breastfeeding at work is especially hard for teachers who often lack schedule flexibility (it’s hard to pause an algebra lesson to pump), as well as access to private spaces (where they won’t be interrupted...by students). At Coney Island Prep, a charter school in Brooklyn, the administration installed a Mamava pod in each building so busy teachers could access them when and where they needed them. Here’s to a school that’s modeling for the next generation what it looks like to support breastfeeding! https://lnkd.in/edExBgCF #WorldTeachersDay #breastfeeding #education

Prior to founding Mamava, Christine Dodson spent most of her career in advertising and brand design. So when it came to developing the Mamava brand it was second nature. Now as COO, Christine is responsible for Mamava Manufacturing as well as Mamava’s engineering, service operations, and human resources departments. (Did you know that only 22.5% of manufacturing business leaders are women?) Here Christine shares more about her role, as well as the time she left NYC and her career in her 20s to go on an adventure 🏔 . 🔹 Why did you want to join the Mamava team?  Returning to work after my first born (25 years ago!) made me realize how few resources existed for women like me who were trying to perform our jobs at the highest level while trying to pump enough breast milk for our babies at work. Sascha Mayer and I incubated the idea for Mamava while we worked together at JDK because we wanted to change that predicament for future generations of moms. 🔹 What are your primary responsibilities at Mamava?  As the head of Operations, I make sure everything is running smoothly at Mamava Manufacturing (located in Springfield, VT!) and within Mamava’s engineering, service operations, and human resources departments. Fun fact: 100% of our pods are manufactured at our facility in Springfield where we employ 17 employees. 🔹 Describe one of the specific "soft" skills you’re known for—what's your superpower? I’m direct—if I'm curious about something, I'm not afraid to ask questions or if I feel like an injustice has been done, I'm going to call it out. 🔹 What are three things you love to do (outside of Mamava)?   Bike, ski, and spend time outdoors. 🔹 What's a surprising personal fact most people don't know about you? I left a successful career in advertising in NYC in my late 20s to go on an adventure. First stop: Alaska, working in a fish cannery 🎣. And then to Vermont to be a ski bum. It was the best decision I ever made—it helped me reset and decide what kind of life I wanted to live. #employeespotlight #manufacturingday #workingparents

Many states have workplace lactation protections that go beyond the PUMP Act. Mamava’s state-by-state guide can help employees and employers understand their rights and responsibilities: https://lnkd.in/dKxW92d (FYI—Vermont requires employers to provide break time and a lactation space for breastfeeding employees for up to three years post-birth! That’s two years longer than the PUMP Act 👏. ) #compliance #breastfeeding #humanresources
