✨“Moderately scheduled and well-rested is the vibe,” says Tamara Sykes, Head of Content Strategy at Stacker and Founder of Baydian Girl and Next Level Presence. Tamara’s story is a powerful reminder that rigid, hustle-focused schedules don’t always serve us, especially when life requires flexibility. As a parent and entrepreneur, she’s learned to prioritize balance over burnout — embracing the unpredictability of life, especially with kids, while still making room for personal and professional growth. For Tamara, it’s about being okay with where life is right now and advocating for flexibility, especially for women who juggle multiple roles. 🌸 Her advice? Stay adaptable, give yourself grace, and know that seasons of life change — and so will your goals. #WorkLifeBalance #Flexibility #TimeManagement

Content Marketing's First Alt-Weekly
About us
Welcome to content marketing’s alt-weekly. If you enjoy working in content marketing, but could still do with about 75% less of the corporate bullshit that comes with it, we made Managing Editor for you. We’re a home for the changemakers, culture creators, leaders, disruptors, innovators and mavericks in brand journalism and content marketing. And, no, we don’t care about your email newsletter best practices. We do want to hear about how you felt when you realized you had written 250,000 words about employment assessments in two years under someone else’s name. But could never find time to write your own book. Or how you explain your job to your parents, who still think you “work at the newspaper.” We’d also love to hear about the special Spotify playlist you’ve created for those days you have to navigate the minefield of that one special SME’s “white papers.” Managing Editor is nurtured and loved by the team at Rep Cap, a B2B content marketing agency that provides content marketing for progressive professional services firms and consultants. We welcome contributions from content marketers who have something interesting to say about our emerging profession. We like profiles of creative people who like shaking things up, contrary perspectives, and poking holes in anything that “everybody knows.” We do not like "syndicated" content, backlink schemes or tired-ass listicles. Most articles on Managing Editor run from 750 to 1,500 words, but if you’re on a roll and you’re not boring, we won’t cut you off. You may recommend (or pan) specific vendors, but you must disclose any business relationship you have with the company in question. Or their competitors. Got something you need to say? Drop us a line at hello@managingeditor.com.

Here’s the common marketing mistake companies are making when it comes to AI, according to Robert Rose (The Content Advisory (TCA)): Instead of making consumers the hero, they're positioning AI as the star. 🤖✨ It’s called solutionism. “They’re making people feel like they have to be worthy of the technology rather than helping us see how we can use it to become heroes of our own story," Robert explains. 💡 This approach misses the mark, especially when consumers have fears and uncertainties around AI. The focus should be on empowering users, not overwhelming them with "godlike" technology. #AI #AIMarketing #MarketingStrategy #Solutionism

Nancy Harhut of HBT Marketing emphasizes the importance of ethics and responsibility when using behavioral science in marketing. While these techniques can be powerful, they should never compromise trust or integrity. Nancy’s golden rule? "Treat your customers the way you want to be treated." Be honest and transparent, and never ask your audience to take actions you wouldn’t ask of your loved ones. Short wins aren’t worth the long-term damage to your brand’s reputation. #EthicalMarketing #NancyHarhut #BehavioralScience #TrustMatters #MarketingResponsibly #IntegrityInMarketing

In our recent chat, Robert Rose of The Content Advisory (TCA) discussed the delicate balance between the art and science of marketing. While the artistic side brings creativity and emotional resonance, it’s often unpredictable and immeasurable. 🎨📊 “You can't predict it scientifically... but there are patterns and behaviors we can optimize for the business,” Robert shared, highlighting the importance of embracing both the uncertainty of creativity and the predictability of science. #ArtAndScience #ContentMarketing

Whether you call it marketing, content strategy, or content operations, the landscape has changed — evolving over time rather than through one big pivot. 📈 As Robert Rose of The Content Advisory (TCA) puts it, “You evolve with the times, and you are fundamentally different ten years later.” It’s about making small, incremental changes that add up over the years. 💡 How has your work changed in the last 8 years? #MarketingEvolution #ContentStrategy #ContentMarketing

Canva is an incredible tool for non-designers who need to create graphics and videos without a lot of experience. However, that doesn’t mean the tool is meant for everyone. It has its downsides, too — from creating template dependence and having limited design flexibility to inconsistent terminology and performance issues with large files. These drawbacks may not impact you, but keep an eye out for them in the future! If you’re not using Canva, what design tools does your team use for content marketing? #Design #ContentMarketing #Canva
