Action for Equity in Health
About us
The Massachusetts Public Health Alliance (MPHA) is a nonprofit organization that promotes a healthy Massachusetts through advocacy, community organizing, and coalition building. We are leaders in the movement to create health equity by addressing the root causes of health and wellness. We promote policies that impact the major drivers of health outcomes, such as access to healthy food, safe affordable housing, and transportation. We also advocate for equitable public health services throughout the Commonwealth. Mission MPHA is a catalyst for community-driven policy change that fosters conditions for people to achieve their full health potential where they live, work, and play. We advocate and organize in partnership to dismantle structural racism and address the other root causes of health inequities. Vision A Massachusetts of healthy, equitable, just, and thriving communities where racism, poverty, and zip code do not determine our health or lifespan.

Excited to see our staff out and about! One of our team members, Ana Hidalgo, recently shared insights on #publichealth leadership at Regis College. Connections like these between our organization, educational institutions, and future public health professionals strengthen our community and field. #PublicHealthSavesLives #MPHAinAction
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of presenting at Dr. Leslie Mandel's Public Health Leadership & Management class at Regis College. This is the second year that Leslie has invited me to speak to her students about my leadership trajectory post-graduation and how I ended up working at the Massachusetts Public Health Alliance. As a Regis alumna, it is always great to go back (even virtually) to share with future members of the workforce the importance of establishing trust and relationship building in any leadership position. I am so grateful to still have a connection to my alma mater and hope to continue this tradition for many more years.

Resistance in Action: We believe that together we can push back against harmful federal executive orders, funding freezes, immigration terror, attacks on the trans community, and other injustices. This week, we are focused on the “other injustices,” and this one is right here in Massachusetts! Please join us and our partners in the Massachusetts Food System Collaborative in advocating for accessible, affordable and nutritious food -- essential for a healthy life! WHEN: Thursday, March 13 from 11am to 1pm WHERE: State House, Boston WHAT: Call on the legislature to support $5M in supplemental funding for the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP). This level of funding would restore HIP benefits to the monthly allocations that were in place before they were slashed to $20/household (regardless of household size) last December. The HIP program provides fresh, healthy, local fruits and vegetables for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) recipients. In addition, these resources will help to add new farmers to fill gaps in program coverage as well as to meet the demand for this program and support its year-round operation. You can learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e9yXgsTH Please consider attending in person for the Lobby Day on March 13th. RSVP today! Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/eAQCGZRv Thanks for being part of the resistance!!
