My first Climate Week in NYC was a whirlwind! I finally had the chance to meet in person with people I’ve only seen on screens (Lisa Lambie, Deborah Brosnan)—feeling the energy of a community united by purpose. Being surrounded by so many passionate individuals, all dedicated to solving the climate crisis, was truly re-energizing. From diving into the Blue Tech Startupsphere, (Seaworthy Collective, {CODENAME: E-LIXR}, 1000 Ocean Startups), to exploring the future of climate investing at “ClimateTech 3.0” (Orrick Tech, B Capital ) and discussing how to Scale Debt-for-Nature Swaps (Duke University, Bloomberg Green) each event was packed with insights and inspiration. And, of course, the launch of Maroon Invest Global's 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤—an exciting step forward in driving capital towards the solutions our planet needs. My main takeaway? We’re making progress, but there’s still much to do. We need to keep pushing forward, supporting one another, and turning ideas into action. --- 𝐹𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑤 𝑚𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑠 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐵𝑙𝑢𝑒 𝐸𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑚𝑦 #ClimateWeek2024 #SustainableFuture #BlueEconomy #BusinessForGood

Democratizing Climate Tech investing 🌍 | Investing in breakthrough climate innovations💥 | Podcast Host at Climate Insiders 🎙️
Did you know there’s a fungus🍄 that eats plastic🥤? Last month, scientists discovered a strain of fungus from plastic debris in the ocean that can break down the most common marine plastic, polyethylene 🤯 This breakthrough got me thinking – could this discovery revolutionize how we handle plastic waste? This is super exciting, but still in the early stages. There’s much more research to be done: measuring how much plastic is broken down, identifying the byproducts of this process, and more. Investing in natural solutions is crucial, as traditional methods often add more toxins to the environment. For example, in 2024 we invested in Novobiom, a company using fungi to clean polluted soils sustainably. 🌱🔬 Their work highlights how leveraging nature’s solution, can play a crucial role in making our world cleaner and more sustainable. Share this incredible discovery to be a part of the solution! #PlasticDegradation #Biomimicry

🚨 Alarming Disparities in Bystander CPR Survival Rates 🚨 Recent findings reveal that Black women are at a significantly higher risk when it comes to surviving after bystander CPR compared to White men. 🏥 🔍 Key Insights: Disparities in Survival Rates White men are 41% more likely to survive after receiving bystander CPR, while Black women only have a 5% greater chance of survival. The study reveals significant disparities in the effectiveness of bystander CPR, with Black women having far lower survival rates compared to White men. While White men who received bystander CPR were 41% more likely to survive, Black women only had a 5% greater chance of survival compared to not receiving CPR at all. Study Scope: The analysis covered over 623,000 patient records, indicating a substantial sample size. Approximately 40% of these patients received CPR from bystanders, typically non-professional responders such as family members or passersby. 🩺 Effectiveness of CPR: Bystander CPR generally increases survival rates by about 28% 📈, but the benefit varies significantly by race and gender. The quality of CPR, along with social and cultural factors, seems to play a crucial role in these disparities. 😔 Cultural Hesitations and Discrepancies: Cultural hesitations and discrepancies in CPR training may be contributing to these shocking disparities. 🚺 Cultural Hesitancy: There is a noted hesitation to perform CPR on women, particularly due to concerns about modesty and the physical challenges associated with CPR on women, who are often perceived as more fragile. ⚖️ Racial Disparities: The study highlights that Black individuals, particularly in Black and Hispanic communities, do not receive the same benefits from bystander CPR as other groups. This could be due to variability in dispatcher training and the availability of resources in these communities. 📚 Importance of Representation and Training: The study underscores the importance of improving CPR training and representation in underserved communities. Increased efforts by organizations like the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross are focused on enhancing outreach and education in these areas. The stark 5% survival rate for Black women compared to White men's 41% after bystander CPR reflects systemic inequities that have long placed Black women on the wrong side of the glass ceiling—and now, the glass cliff. Addressing this critical issue is about dismantling the deep-rooted barriers that have historically marginalized Black women and denied them equal opportunities for survival and success. https://lnkd.in/dYThunKz by Nia Mclean Gillian Marcelle, PhD Dr. Susan Swayze UCLA PhD, Duke MBA Elizabeth Leiba Kimberly Bryant Mike Green Dr. Aaron Smith Shari Dunn Dr. Venessa Marie Perry 💪🏾 #HealthEquity #SystemicChange #SupportBlackWomen #Blackstoriesmatter
