About us
Masbia is a not-for-profit charity organization that was founded in April 2005 with one goal in mind – no one should go to sleep hungry, even if they could not afford a meal that day. In 2009, after the great recession, Masbia opened more locations. The expansion was even mentioned on Saturday Night Live. Masbia was actually featured in People Magazine in 2014 as a “restaurant without a cash register”. After a couple of years, Masbia staff started giving people raw food to take home. It quickly turned into a weekly food package distribution that now dwarfs in volume the amount of food served at the restaurant. Now Masbia operates two programs, one known as Soup-Kitchen, where people are served ready-to-eat dinners, and the other as Food-Pantry, where people receive raw food ingredient packages to take with them. A few hundred families visit Masbia every day at each of our three locations. That means about 1,000 families a day and 5,000 families a week get food relief from Masbia. In addition to people visiting Masbia to get services, Masbia is venturing to do deliveries with the support of DoorDash. Masbia also activates a relief squad that responds to emergencies beyond the existing neighborhoods we operate in. Masbia is a grass-roots, hand-to-mouth organization where every dollar donated makes it into someone’s stomach in less than two weeks. Everything that is done at Masbia is done only because tens of thousands of people like you come together and share resources to make it happen. In Short: Masbia Soup Kitchen Network provides emergency food to people in need due to financial status or because of natural disasters via ready-to-eat nutritious meals and raw groceries, free of charge.

Today is the fast day of the Seventeenth of Tammuz. The rabbis of the Talmud teach us that in order to make a fast day meaningful, one should share the money and food they saved by not eating with someone in need. אגרא דתעניתא צדקתא. ברכות ו ע"ב In a practical sense, when fasting we can better relate to someone who is hungry because they simply do not have food to eat. Have an easy fast!

Naomi Ross: Masbia needs your help to feed the needy. Every donation makes a difference regardless of the size. And now, I'm here to make your charitable giving just a little more delicious. My cookbook, The #GivingTable, contains over 160 recipes with gorgeous photography and links to how-to videos. In the book, I write about the power of giving through food, and my experience sharing food with the needy through working with Masbia. They do amazing work and I love the organization. For only $10, you can sponsor 1 hot, ready-to-eat meal. But if you sponsor 18 meals for $180, I will send you a copy of my beautiful cookbook. If you sponsor 180 meals for $1,800, I will send you a personalized autographed copy. For $18,000 to help buy food at #Masbia, I will give you a private cooking lesson. https://lnkd.in/eAE7K-TD

Hello! I'm, Rorie Weisberg, founder of Full n Free, and I'm here to make charity giving more delicious. Thousands of families get food at Masbia every week, and hundreds get food every day. Healthy food and sharing food are what Masbia and I have in common. That's what my cookbook and my line of products are all about. https://lnkd.in/ezVn7par At Masbia, $10 will sponsor a hot dinner for one person. If you sponsor a donation of $180 (18 Meals x $10 = $180), Masbia will send you a copy of my newly published cookbook. If you can sponsor a donation of $1,800.00, (180 Meals x $10 = $1,800.00), I will send you my cookbook along with a variety of my food products. Masbia needs your help. Every little bit makes a difference in how many people can be served. https://lnkd.in/e-iv5Zem

The meals during Shavuos at Masbia of Boro Park were described by the mashgiach/chef Shimon Shimonovitz as "PACKED". As the chef, it definitely brings him joy that so many came and enjoyed the holiday meals he prepared. From a birds-eye view, it might be more of a sad picture, as it shows how many people were in need of food on a holiday. At Masbia, we always anticipate more people will show up than the number of people who made reservations. We try to be mindful not to create too much waste. while making sure everyone gets food. Since this holiday was so close to Shabbos, having an abundance of salmon and gefilte fish or kugels was an easy hedge to make, since if it won't be eaten on the holiday, we will cook less for Shabbos. The reality this morning was that we had to cook everything for Shabbos as if there were no holiday yesterday. That's how packed it was. We need your ongoing support to keep our shelves stocked with food. Please make a donation here: https://lnkd.in/eMBGGNKE Have a wonderful Shabbos!

Why Feed the Needy for Shavuos? On the holiday of Shavuos, we all once had no food to eat. We celebrate the day when all Jews stood at Mount Sinai (1312 BCE) when all kosher laws came into effect and we all found ourselves without food. All of the food had become non-kosher and we needed to start our pantry from scratch. The first easy go-to food was milk and dairy so that's why we celebrate Shavuos with eating a dairy meal. How about celebrating by remembering those who have no food in their pantry now? Please sponsor Yom tov meals at Masbia today.
