A story of impact. We acquired the IP for the MaternaWell Tray a short time ago and already it's in use on South Africa, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Sierra Leone and soon Pakistan. Our goal is to work with local partners and key opinion leaders to scale the technology quickly. There is an immediate need for a sustainable, reusable method for measuring blood loss after childbirth. An ingenious design by Dr. Justus Hofmeyr. The MAMA-PIKIN FOUNDATION purchased the MaternaWell Tray for their trainings. Here is a photo of the tray in use, fake blood, fake placenta and all. The intensity of the training and its importance is so evident in this photo. Kudos to the careful (and swift) planning by the teams involved. This materialized rapidly. Visualization of the cervix is improved with the Bouquet Speculum. This FDA cleared device opens radially with five petals to form a 360 degree aperture. We have shared the device with some of the leading voices in reproductive oncology in the USA and gotten positive feedback. Particularly in higher BMI or multigravida patients, visibility can be a challenge, and it is documented that with a compromised visual field, important signs are missed. The DreamWarmer is heated in a purpose-built thermos pictured here. There are four key safety features of this infant warming mattress + thermos solution. 1. Phase Change Material: Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories innovation The warming mattress is made of a bio-based phase change material that moves from liquid to solid at 37 °C and once melted it stays consistently at this temperature for approximately six hours. 2. Heated Mattress goes inside a neoprene sleeve The insulating sleeve is a polymer film made of non-toxic foam and neoprene, certified by the USDA and FDA to hold air, fluids, and vacuum, and to withstand very high temperatures. This protects the infant andkeeps the mattress warm for over 6 hours. It’s also easy to clean for infection prevention. 3. Bright Orange Warming Indicator When the ORANGE indicator built into the mattress turns from liquid to solidit is safe to put the baby onthe pad. 4. Custom-designed Heating Thermos: The thermos has a wide base so it doesn’t tip over with a lid so it closes. It has a built-in timer to specify the precise amount of time needed to transfer heat from water to phase change material. The precise volume of boiling water is indicated with a filling line inside the thermos. 

Our third post in the story of the DreamWarmer: The DreamWarmer phase change material infant warming mattress was developed at Lawrence Berkeley Labs. Global Newborn Solutions, a non-profit, began clinical testing in Rwanda. Here is a quick recap of the three studies undertaken and published: Pilot 1 & Pilot 2: 204 newborn uses across these two pilots showed initial safety, effectiveness and feasibility. RCT: The Rwanda Ministry of Health (RMOH) then invited Global Newborn Solutions to conduct a Randomized Control Trial. This trial resulted in 892 uses of the Dreamwarmer. Here we'll walk you through the elegant system developed for warming the DreamWarmer™ infant warming mattress to precisely the right temperature and keeping it at that temperature. We are proud to work with OraSure Technologies to accelerate access to and awareness of this point of care test for #syphilis-- 10 minutes turnaround and high sensitivity/specificity. The #CDC states "An accurate POC serologic antibody test for syphilis can shorten the time to treatment because the infection could be identified at the time of the visit or encounter..." and specifically mentions this test by name in its guidelines. If you work on syphilis you know that a confirmatory test can take 3-5, as long as a week to come back from the lab. Counseling and recommendations could occur during the patient visit, adding days or a week to the prevention of further spread and the beginning of treatment plans.
