About us
MNLA believes that landscape architecture is more than a profession – it is an optimistic way of seeing the world and envisioning its possibilities to be both beautiful and responsible. We practice landscape architecture as a medium capable of reinvigorating, healing, and mediating places. Our work embraces catalytic and performative landscapes that deepen cultural expression through memory and hope. The recipient of nearly 100 awards in its 20+ years of practice, MNLA’s greatest reward is work that changes lives and strengthens and empowers communities.

Pier 42 is now open to the public! NYC EDC, with NYC Parks recently cut the ribbon on the final phase of the park, located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. “Our vision for Pier 42 was to transform eight acres of neglected urban decay into an engaging and sustainable space for one of New York City’s densest and significantly underrepresented communities,” said Signe Nielsen, Principal at MNLA. “By integrating native plantings, bio-swales, and solar lighting, our goal was to create a park that enhances ecological value while simultaneously providing a dynamic space for recreation and relaxation.” Nyc Economic Development Corp NYC Department of Parks & Recreation NYC Department of Design and Construction AKRF Sage and Coombe Architects Jacobs McLaren Engineering Group The LiRo Group

We are so proud to be the recipient of the 2024 LAF Research Grant in honor of Deb Mitchell. Thank you Landscape Architecture Foundation!
We are pleased to announce the 2024 recipient of the LAF Research Grant in Honor of Deb Mitchell. This year's winning proposal is "Ethically Sourcing: Specifying Forced-Labor Free Materials in Landscape Architecture." How can the field of landscape architecture evaluate its exposure risk to materials produced through forced labor? Can more conscientious sourcing of construction materials address this important question of social equity? Over the next year, a team at MNLA led by Noriko Maeda, RLA, ASLA and an academic partner, Franca Trubiano, PhD will explore these questions and more, researching how landscape architects can use project specifications and procurement processes to address these critical issues and help to advance fair labor practices.
