Research Spotlight: Faecal Microbiota Transplantation🔦 At Matter of Health, we are forward-thinking, always keeping up with the latest research. Ruth, one of our nutritional therapists, has been particularly interested in the potential for faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) for supporting people with health issues, including poor mental health and chronic sleep deprivation. So, let’s do a deep dive into FMT and its' potential in mental health management... 💩 FMT is the process of transferring faecal bacteria and other microbes from a healthy individual into another individual. 🧠 This may hold potential in treating some types of depression, such as major depressive disorder. ✍️ FMT is currently only recommended for the treatment of recurrent and refractory Clostridiodes difficile infection in adults. 👉 Further research is needed to understand the connection between FMT and the alleviation of mental health disorders. While this is not something that Nutritional Therapists can prescribe, the emergence of FMT is a stark reminder of how important the health of the gut microbiome is to our mental health. If you are looking for nutrition services based on the latest evidence, as part of a whole-health approach to mental health, then contact us today: https://lnkd.in/erviz4bz So, have you ever heard of FMT in the treatment of mental health disorders? ❓ #FaecalMicrobiotaTransplantation #WholeHealthApproach #NutritionalTherapy

Back-to-school thoughts: “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe. As the new school year begins, it can be easy to focus on the overwhelming pressure and challenges that may be encountered. As a student, teacher, or parent, your traditional ‘summer schedule’ may be thrown out the window, and you may have to adapt to a new environment, timetable, and lifestyle. Therefore, in the words of Arthur Ashe, it’s important to remember to: - Start where you are: Take small, encouraging steps towards your goals. - Use what you have: Seek out resources and support around you. This may look like leaning on parents or teachers. You may also like professional help from our team at Matter of Health: https://lnkd.in/erviz4bz - Do what you can: Focus on what you are able to do today and continue to do this. What previous strategies have worked for you at the start of the school year? Comment below. 🌟 #BackToSchool #WholeHealthApproach #MindfulEducation

Eating sustainably for depression and anxiety 🌎 Does eating a planetary health diet help with mental health prevention? A diet that places an emphasis on both dietary and planetary health, known as the EAT-lancet diet, has been shown to reduce the risk of anxiety and depression. This is according to a recent large-scale research study conducted on 180,446 participants over a course of 12 years (Source: Lu et al., 2024). So, what does this diet include? • Reduced intake of highly processed foods • Minimal intake of animal proteins • Emphasis on plant sources of protein (e.g., beans, tofu) • Adequate intake of wholegrain products (e.g., brown rice, wholemeal bread) The diet focusses on two ‘end points’ of the global food system: final consumption and production. Both of which have the greatest effects on human health and sustainability. You can learn more about the Eat-Lancet diet here: https://lnkd.in/eQFfHyP If you are looking to improve your mental health through a whole-health approach, including prioritising your nutrition, click on the link to be put in touch with one of our healthcare professionals: https://lnkd.in/erviz4bz #SustainableDiet #WholeHealthApproach #MatterOfHealth
