It also addressed the unique aspects of rural communities as crucial for tailoring effective interventions. “Land O’Lakes is a farmer-owned cooperative with presence in over 10,000 rural communities. Healthcare infrastructure is vital to farm families and businesses in these rural communities. Over the next five years, 53% of doctors in rural areas plan to retire, leaving a devastating gap in services and care, and 20% of America’s rural hospitals are at risk of closure. Rural America needs trained doctors and an infrastructure to access them easily. Transforming rural healthcare and connecting America is a huge challenge. Together, we can move the ball forward by expanding access and improving conditions and outcomes for patients in rural America. We’re working to develop and support essential policy reforms dealing with the growth of rural residency programs, affordable medical schools in rural areas and the expansion of telehealth services.” Tina May, Chief of Staff and VP of Rural Services at Land O’Lakes Tina will discuss the rural health workforce at the Transforming Community and Rural Healthcare 2024: Inspiring Partnerships and Scaling Collaborative Impact symposium on Oct. 21–22. https://mayocl.in/407KY0I Register today to hear from Tina and other experts about pressing healthcare issues facing rural America. https://mayocl.in/407KY0I #ruralhealthcare #ruralheathsymposium #ruralheath

Congratulations to Margaret (Maggie) K., who recently received The DAISY Award at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Read an excerpt from the nomination: “When a new respiratory therapist faced a patient's sudden desaturation, Maggie's swift and calm response was a beacon of reassurance. Maggie transformed fear into trust through her comforting words and presence. Maggie ensured the patient knew what was happening, who was in the room with her, and how her oxygen status was progressing. During this event, she supported the therapist with kindness and encouragement. Her actions created a supportive environment amidst chaos, embodying the essence of exceptional nursing.” Mayo Clinic Health System is among over 5,000 healthcare organizations worldwide committed to the DAISY Award program. The DAISY Award is presented each month to an extraordinary nurse. Last night, Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and the Albert Lea community celebrated the new Naeve Garden with a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting. The Naeve Garden honors the history and legacy of the former Naeve Hospital building. It is a living tribute — reflecting the shared history and spirit of the Albert Lea community. It is a place where neighbors, families, patients, colleagues and friends can come together, find peace, connect and draw strength from the natural beauty that surrounds them. The dedication ceremony included the opening of the 1911 time capsule, preserved in the former building, the presentation of The Healer’s Touch sculpture and a special recognition of the 50th anniversary of Fountain Centers, Mayo Clinic Health System’s addiction services program. It was a beautiful evening filled with joy, gratitude and the power of community.
