About us

Welcome to McKinley – Where Hope Illuminates Our Path! At McKinley, we are guided by the HUMAN values that resonate deeply within us. We are a team made up of compassionate individuals. We exemplify being HOPEFUL. We are UNDERSTANDING. We are MORAL, by treating everyone with respect. We are AWESOME, by recognizing the unique qualities in each person. We are NURTURING, to those in our communities who are in need of support or specialized care. Our organization believes in healing through connection. Our trauma-informed approach acknowledges the resilience within every individual, empowering them to harness the strength of their natural support systems. Originally founded as a residential facility for orphaned children over a century ago, we have grown and evolved into a multifaceted organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in our community. Mission: By inspiring hope, McKinley helps youth, families, adults and communities aspire to their highest potential through impactful services provided by a team of compassionate professionals fueled by our H.U.M.A.N. values. Our goal is healing, growing, and thriving together! We accomplish this by serving Southern California through multiple locations and a diverse range of programs, including Behavioral Health, Special Education, Foster Care and Adoptions, Residential Care, and a Shelter Program that reunites immigrant children with their families. Each of our programs embodies our unwavering commitment to building a brighter, more inclusive future. Side by side, we pave the way for transformation, one life at a time. We invite you to join us on our journey of hope, compassion, and transformation. Together, we can create a brighter future for our youth, families, and communities. Let's live the HUMAN values that will shape a better world!

Creating Conditions for Growth: The Impact of Ecological-Informed Training at McKinley McKinley is proud to share the second installment of our ecological-informed training video series in collaboration with the La Maida Project. This training has had a profound effect on our organization, reshaping how we support both our team members and the individuals we serve. One standout concept from the La Maida Project is the House Plant Analogy, which Suzann McIntire, our VP of Mental Health, shares in this video. Just as houseplants come with specific care instructions—sunlight, water, and the right environment to thrive—we’ve adopted the practice of asking ourselves and each other: What do you need to thrive? In our workplace, this philosophy has taken root. A houseplant in our break room is now surrounded by notes from our team members, sharing what conditions help them succeed in their work and personal lives. It’s a daily reminder to focus on nurturing the environment that supports growth and well-being. Another key takeaway is the practice of co-regulation—understanding that our emotional states influence those around us, and in turn, we are influenced by the emotional states of others. As part of this practice, our team has embraced collective moments like 'dance breaks' to release tension, recenter, and create a more supportive work environment. These insights from the La Maida Project have inspired us to cultivate not only a more connected team but also a healthier, more resilient workplace culture. We look forward to continuing this journey of growth, both individually and as an organization. Stay tuned for more insights from this transformative training video series! #EcologicalTraining #WorkplaceWellBeing #TeamGrowth #McKinleyMission

Continuing to Shine a Spotlight on Mental Health During Mental Health Awareness Month At McKinley, we believe that true healing begins when we look beyond just the symptoms and embrace an approach that nurtures the whole person, mind, body, and spirit. That’s why we're proud to have partnered with the La Maida Project to tackle the mental health crisis head-on through an ecological, trauma-informed approach to healing. Through this partnership, we've empowered our organization to reimagine health by considering the deep connections between our environment, relationships, and past experiences. By focusing on self-regulation, stress management, and co-regulation, we’ve transformed how we support not only our clients but also each other as a team. The ripple effects are already profound, our staff is more connected, resilient, and empowered than ever before. Next week, McKinley will be attending and presenting at the 2024 NAMI(National Alliance on Mental Illness) California Annual Conference to speak about the transformative impact of the La Maida Project's rollout across our organization. Our CEO, Anil Vadaparty, shares in this video, about how this innovative approach is creating real change for both our teams and the individuals we serve. Mental health matters. Let’s continue working together to foster environments where everyone has the opportunity not just to heal, but to thrive. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #McKinleyMission #NAMI #EcologicalHealing #MentalHealthMatters

McKinley's Women's Conference: Community Impact and a Look Ahead! We are truly humbled and overjoyed to announce that, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our sponsors, donors, and participants, we have exceeded our donation goal for this year’s women’s conference! Every penny raised—100% of the proceeds—is going directly to support the young girls in our foster family program system. Grace Sanchez shares her vision and gratitude as this incredible support from our community means we can do more than ever before. We have young girls in our program who dream of attending camps, seminars, and events that can expose them to new opportunities and broaden their horizons. Thanks to the funds raised through the conference, we can now say yes to them. Moving forward, we are inspired to continue striving for greater goals, knowing that we have the unwavering support of our community. Our CEO, Anil Vadaparty, Grace Sanchez and her phenomenal team: Tristin Castellanos, Kristen Toya, Ryan Beld, and Wendy Garcia, want to thank each and every one of you—because none of this would be possible without your support. Special shoutout to NBCLA Journalist Annette Arreola! We are beyond grateful for Annette, who has been a dedicated supporter of McKinley for many years. This year, she took on the role of host and interviewer for our Women's Conference, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect host to guide us through the evening! Thank you, Annette, for your unwavering support and for continuing to inspire those around you. We’re lucky to have you as part of the McKinley community! #McKinleyMission #WomensConference #Womenleaders #FosterCare #FFA
