We're getting national attention for our workforce development efforts! Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Julie A. Su visited the County's detention center to recognize training available for incarcerated residents. The Sheriff's Office provides opportunities to enhance job readiness, earn certifications and explore entrepreneurial ventures. Secretary Su received a tour and a briefing on these programs. She also met with the Sheriff, members of the Board of County Commissioners, representatives of the Urban League and other local and regional officials. More: https://meck.co/47Gt7zY

September, we've been through a lot together. 1. We want to recognize our team who worked around the clock this weekend to keep people informed and safe during #HurricaneHelene. For many, the work is still going. THANK YOU!! 2. Public Health Director, Dr. Raynard Washington joined other Public Health leaders at the Big Cities Health Coalition in Memphis, TN for intensive discussions and to exchange strategies and challenges. He also serves as their board chair! 3. Twenty-eight Information Technology Services staff volunteered to help unload, sort and inventory over-the-counter medicines and other products for NC MedAssist for two days! The organization offers free or low-cost prescription medications and everyday over-the-counter products free of charge to those in need in North Carolina. 4. Public Health is making moves (like always)! Our team was at the North Carolina Public Health Association conference this week. It brings together public health professionals from across the state to share ideas and strategies for healthier communities. Yolondra Cochran, Health Nursing Program Manager, talked about team building. Kiara Davis, Quality and Training Specialist, gave a presentation on diabetes. And a BIG shoutout to Keila Marlin, a Health Program Manager, for earning a scholarship to help complete her PhD! We’re so proud of their dedication and leadership in improving public health! 📸 (left to right): Yolondra Cochran, Michelle Partridge-Doerr, Kiara Davis, Glenda Dancy, Myles Bell, Keila Marlin and Jaramial Lee. Big shoutout to our creative fee collection and Hickory Grove Recycling staff! When trailers come through our centers, staff had to leave the collection booth and use a tape measure for fee collection. But thanks to Ally Star, Miranda Davis, Mike Belk, and Daryl Cross, that's a thing of the past! They came up with a genius fix — painting a ruler on the ground for quick trailer measurements. No more tape, just a quick glance for faster service! 📍 8007 Pence Road, Charlotte

Our election team is hard at work to make sure this election is smooth, safe and secure! Here’s what they want you to know: 1. Check your voter registration. 2. Mark your calendar for these important dates. 3. Don't forget your ID! Most people will use their driver’s license, but there are many types of acceptable photo IDs. No ID? You can still vote with a provisional ballot: Vote.MeckNC.gov
