MORE GOOD NEWS: Minneapolis set post-pandemic hotel records in both hotel room demand and occupancy to close out the summer. HOTEL ROOM DEMAND: The 223,525 hotel rooms occupied in August were the most since August 2019 and surpassed the previous post-pandemic high we set last month (July 2024). Year-over-year, hotel demand in August was up 6%. HOTEL OCCUPANCY: Hotel occupancy in August 2024 was 70.2% – the highest monthly occupancy rate since October 2019. Compared to last year, hotel occupancy in August was up 6%. HOTEL ROOM REVENUE: Minneapolis hotel room revenue in August was up 15.6% year-over-year. Our hotels recorded more than $42.1 million in total guest room revenue in August 2024 – the third straight month with revenue above $42 million. In 2024, Minneapolis hotels have set new post-pandemic highs for per-month occupancy every month since February. In addition, we forecast an even larger economic boost for our local community with a significant double-digit increase in lodging taxes collected this year. Today, we had the opportunity to be part of an event at the Minnesota State Fair to discuss the importance and value of the travel industry, alongside local and national travel advocates. The event was part of a U.S. Travel Association national tour focused on how travel works—for every industry and every community in America. In 2023, travel spending generated $2.8 trillion in economic output nationally and supported jobs for more than 15 million American workers. In Minnesota, visitors directly spent $14.1 billion last year, supporting more than 180,000 workers. United States Senator Amy Klobuchar has been a longtime, steadfast supporter of the travel industry both locally and nationally. She and Geoff Freeman of the U.S. Travel Association were among the speakers at today's event. Pictured L-R: Courtney S. Last week, Meet Minneapolis – alongside our partners Delta Air Lines (Kyle Van Alstine), the IGLTA Foundation (John Tanzella) and the ASAE Research Foundation – hosted our 19th Annual LGBTQ2IA+ Party at ASAE. 🌈 THANK YOU to the more than 400 people who attended. With your help, we raised over $15,600 to benefit the IGLTA Foundation and the ASAE Research Foundation. The IGLTA Foundation is the philanthropic organization of the LGBTQ2IA+ Travel Association which provides a fellowship program for the next generation of LGBTQ2IA+ tourism professionals, marketing assistance for small gay-friendly businesses in emerging destinations that lack governmental support of LGBTQ2IA+ infrastructure, and global research to further understanding of LGBTQ2IA+ travel. The ASAE Research Foundation supports grant programs and research designed to advance knowledge about association management, inform effective practices in the industry, and provide meaningful evidence that allow association professionals to make informed decisions. It was a fun night to party with a purpose. In Unity We Thrive! #Minneapolis #LGBTQ #LGBTQ2IA #DEI #meetingsandevents

Recently, we've boasted about big events, record breaking hotel numbers and being named the happiest place in the U.S. Next up, Minneapolis will be ROCKING OUT this weekend! 😎 🤘 (https://bit.ly/3YQbIT7). This is another positive sign for our city's tourism and hospitality industry. From iconic, independent venues to our stadiums (like U.S. Bank Stadium - ASM Global) and from the Minneapolis Convention Center to our more than 10,200 hotel rooms, our city is built for all of this. So, if you are looking for a city to host your meeting, convention, sporting event, concert or cultural festival, you're always invited to come see what our Minneapolis community has to offer. #Minneapolis #travel #tourism #concerts #metallica #rocknroll #meetingsandevents #concerttourism

And hotel room revenue in July was up 28.5% year-over-year. HOTEL ROOM DEMAND: The 219,422 hotel rooms occupied in July were the most since August 2019. Year-over-year, hotel demand in July was up 12.5%. HOTEL OCCUPANCY: Hotel occupancy in July 2024 was 68.9% – the highest monthly occupancy rate since October 2019. We love sounding like a broken record! Last week (July 14-20, 2024) was another outstanding one for tourism in Minneapolis as multiple events resulted in record-breaking numbers for our city’s hotels. The noteworthy hotel success was driven by the meetings, conventions and events that Meet Minneapolis – and its partners – brought to the city including: --Academy of General Dentistry 2024 and the Rubik's WCA North American Championship at the Minneapolis Convention Center (MCC) --Herbalife North American Extravaganza at U.S. Bank Stadium - ASM Global --Stonewall Sports National Tournament & Summit at various sites around the city THE IMPORTANCE: Securing meetings, conventions and large events for our convention center, and venues throughout the city, provides a significant boost to Minneapolis’ economy and supports our city's more than 31,000 tourism and hospitality workers.
