We just had a Heat Awareness Day to learn how to Beat the Heat. We want to thank the Menlo Park Fire Department for providing the on-site training program. https://lnkd.in/gSDSfpHe Did you know that in California, employees are entitled to take a break if the temperatures are too high? Both Outdoor and Indoor staff can take breaks when temperatures reach specified levels to cool down and protect themselves from heat-related illnesses based on Cal/OSHA standards. OUTDOOR STAFF MEASURES: -Employers must provide fresh water and access to shade when temperatures reach 80 °F, degrees or higher. -Staff are entitled to take cool-down rest breaks in addition to their regular breaks whenever they feel the need to prevent heat illness. -High Heat Procedures: When temperatures reach 90°F or higher, employers must implement additional high-heat procedures. These include reminding workers to drink water frequently, ensuring effective communication, and observing workers for signs of heat illness. INDOOR STAFF MEASURES: -At 82 °F, employers must provide cooling areas & monitor staff for signs of heat illness.  -At 87°F, additional measures such as more frequent breaks, adjusted work schedules, slower work pace, or cooling devices must be provided. California employers must proactively implement and maintain a written heat illness prevention plan and provide practical training for supervisors and staff, ensuring everyone is prepared and reassured.
