4 Day Work Week an Overwhelming Success! To support our staff and address the current challenges in hiring and retention after experiencing “The Great Resignation,” MHR introduced a non-traditional scheduling option to employees. In early 2022, we introduced a pilot of compressed work weeks on four of our teams. Using learnings from other institutions who have successfully implemented a shorter work week, we were able to creatively design options for both hourly and salaried staff in all positions that felt significant enough to change their overall experience. Settling into a compressed work week has taken a bit of time. However, we are seeing the promising results we targeted. With some trial and error, most staff have found a new structure that allows them to remain as productive as they had previously been without spending as much actual time at work. The result is that those individuals are reporting less burnout, better work-life balance, and more satisfaction at work. At this time, we are proud to share that 87% of MHR staff have chosen to work a compressed work week.
