Thanks for the memories, #SFTW. ✨ While the week isn't over yet - here are a few highlights so far: - Seeing Immad Akhund share his founder story during a live podcast recording with The Room Podcast - Launching our second Meridian print issue, Cycles, and sharing it with our community during the week - Meeting new Managing Directors & Program Managers over brunch with Google — and getting some live portraits done. - Getting some IRL laughs in at Alexis Gay's hit set, "Unprofessional" If you weren't able to make it out to TECH WEEK by a16z, we'll also be live at TechCrunch Disrupt later this month (with more copies of Meridian you can pick up).

Cycles are everywhere—in nature, in our daily routines, and in business. From the changing of the seasons to the rise and fall of industries, economic booms and busts to tech hype cycles, these patterns bring both challenges and opportunities. Recognizing these cycles offers a chance to learn, adapt, and grow. Sometimes we make progress by following the pattern; other times, by breaking it entirely. We’d love to hear your stories – what cycles have you observed/experienced, and how have they shaped what you’re building today?

Corporate cards 🤝 reimbursements Efficient employee expense management, all in one place. Yesterday, we launched expense reimbursements and expanded spend policies as the newest products in our employee expense management toolkit, building on our corporate cards. Here’s what you can do now: Control employee spend upfront with corporate cards using custom limits, expiration dates, and merchant or category restrictions. Review, approve, and process reimbursements for out-of-pocket expenses in just a few clicks – with pre-set policies for receipts, notes, and submission deadlines. Manage permissions easily by giving team members access to cards or reimbursements without granting access to your account details. Simplify accounting with transaction syncing to your accounting software for seamless reconciliation. Plus, with receipts collected upfront, you’ll never hunt for one again. Set and manage spend policies across both cards and reimbursements from one central location in your Mercury dashboard. Looking for more employee expense management features? Drop your suggestions in the comments below ⬇️

Hot off the press: Meridian’s second print issue, Cycles. This issue focuses on how cycles punctuate our lives, from the natural seasons to the ebbs and flows of technologies to trends in how we think and feel. How some of us create magic by playing into cycles — or by actively choosing to break them. Cycles features conversations with Ryan Hoover, Sophia Amoruso, Dwarkesh Patel, Noor Siddiqui, and more. For a chance to get your own limited-edition copy, subscribe to Meridian via the link in our comments. (And if you're attending #SFTW, be sure to grab a copy from our team in person!)

Supporting startups & VCs @ Mercury

It’s not often you get to hear a founder’s origin story live… in an old bank, with a vault! This is the beauty of TECH WEEK by a16z! Tonight I had the unique opportunity to join the audience of a live recording of The Room Podcast, where Mercury’s CEO & Co-Founder Immad Akhund shared his incredible journey as a founder. From his childhood days in Karachi, to his school and university days in London, to San Francisco, and founding HeyZap and subsequently Mercury. Immad shared insights into: 💰 fundraising ♻️ pivots 🆚 competition 🚀 product led growth 📈 go-to-market Ⓜ️Ⓜ️ ...and much more! He also shared a hilarious story about Starbucks, Andreessen Horowitz and a very important meeting, and paid tribute to one very important person behind the scenes… you’ll have to tune in when the episode goes live to learn more! A huge thank you to Claudia Laurie & Madison McIlwain for the invite, the Mercury events team (Kelly, Chase & Erin Flannery) for putting such a unique experience together, and to all of the audience in attendance. You made the evening all the more special, with great energy, thoughtful questions, and your willingness to engage afterwards! #SFtechweek #TheRoomPodcast #founders #startups

Building banking and finance tools that empower all businesses

Mercury has secured a $100 million credit warehouse with Natixis Corporate & Investment Banking, marking a key milestone for the growth of our corporate credit card* business. This credit warehouse will help us serve more customers and continue expanding our offerings. A warehouse line of credit, commonly used by fintechs to scale credit programs, allows us to fund this growth backed by our receivables. Since launching the IO World Elite Mastercard in September 2022, it’s become the most-used corporate card among Mercury customers given how seamlessly it works with their bank account. Total monthly spend has increased by more than 3X in the last year alone. Our team has been adding new features and capabilities to our cards – like merchant-locked cards and custom spend limits. Additionally, through underwriting updates made possible by our customers’ cash balances held within Mercury, we’ve doubled the percentage of customers eligible for IO since the start of 2023. Read more about what this means for Mercury here: https://lnkd.in/gPuv4cE4 *Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Choice Financial Group and Evolve Bank & Trust®; Members FDIC. The IO Card is issued by Patriot Bank, Member FDIC, pursuant to a license from Mastercard.
