The #SpiritOfMercy Award continues to spotlight incredible individuals who embody our core values of respect, justice, and mercy. Today, we're celebrating another exceptional team member: Heather Curtin! As part of Timbercreek Apartment’s lease-up team and the Property Manager at Sherwood Place, Heather Curtin’s top priority is to communicate with applicants as their files are being processed. “What inspires me about Mercy Housing is the goal to house people with low incomes and the willingness to go the distance to help them with their housing needs,” she shares. Amanda Peterson, one of the three people who nominated Heather adds, “I have recently had several compliments come to be regarding Heather and her communication with applicants.” Although she wears many different hats, Heather continues to help Timbercreek two days a week and on an occasional Saturday to help the site staff following the community’s renovation with staff training and paperwork. Jordan explains, “She does paperwork with applications and is kind and informative.” She also helps to plan community events. “There is no way I could not nominate her for all the work, time, and energy she has put in to help us.” Join us in celebrating Heather! Drop a ❤️ or comment below to congratulate her on this well-deserved honor! 👇

Volunteer Spotlight on Brookfield Properties🤝 Brookfield Properties is a long-standing volunteer partner with Mercy Housing Mountain Plains. It manages real estate worldwide and prioritizes positively impacting the communities where it operates. Through its Brookfield Cares Initiative, Brookfield has donated much-needed resources and time to communities across Colorado. We always look forward to seeing them during Volunteer Week and the holiday season when they spread cheer (and goodies) to residents. Brookfield Properties' Executive Assistant, Bobbi Cunningham, oversees the Brookfield Cares Initiative and recently shared, “It’s the community aspect of volunteering that warms our hearts. The communities may face hard times but are full of love!” When asked about the team’s favorite volunteer project, she said: “Building the Kaboom! playground with CarMax this past year was a favorite volunteer activity. Just driving by and seeing it in use is amazing and heartwarming.” Bobbi and her team have also volunteered in our food pantries, the most in-demand service across all Mercy Housing communities. “One time, you all got an unexpected donation of food, and we raced over to help unload and help residents take bags of groceries to their homes,” Bobbi shared. “One senior resident was so thankful for the help so she could get more than just the few items she could carry.” Thank you, Brookfield! Your generous hearts are making a positive impact in our communities, and we appreciate you🤗

For years, Mark Massengill found himself trapped in a cycle of addiction and homelessness. "I would make it for a while, then something would go wrong—often because of alcohol and drug use", he shares. But his life changed when he found a home and support at Placentia Veterans Village. Veterans face unique and complex challenges, which is why programs like Care Coordination and Integrated Case Management (CCIM) are so vital. Through a streamlined process of care coordination, case workers connect Veterans with the resources and service providers they need to address their most pressing needs.

Celebrating Catholic Sisters Week🙏 Catholic Sisters Week, celebrated every March 8 to 14 during Women’s History Month, honors the incredible contributions of Catholic Sisters to our communities. Mercy Housing was founded over 40 years ago by six Catholic Sisters of Mercy communities grounded in respect, justice, and mercy. Their mission was clear: to create opportunities for residents to stabilize their lives and achieve their dreams through affordable housing with supportive services. Women like Patricia O’Rourke who saw the critical need for affordable housing in her community and brought the idea to the Sisters of Mercy in Omaha, who then embraced it as part of their ministry. They envisioned a model where affordable housing was never just about shelter—it was about offering the resident services that empower residents to thrive, a commitment that continues to shape the work of Mercy Housing today. Women Religious laid the foundation for Mercy Housing to be more than four walls and a roof. Their vision pushed us to pioneer innovation in healthcare and housing, creating a lasting impact on the communities we serve. The unwavering support of the Sisters has been crucial to Mercy Housing’s growth since our founding, with more than a quarter of our housing portfolio made possible by investments from the Sisters. Women Religious continue to inspire us, providing a source of practical encouragement and spiritual support as we follow their lead in advocating for affordable housing as a fundamental human right, no matter a person’s religion, background, or beliefs. The Sisters tradition calls us to act with compassion and purpose. Join us in celebrating the vision, dedication, and lasting impact of the women whose work founded Mercy Housing and whose support helps us transform lives and communities daily.
