BRIGHTENING THE WORLD FOR EARTH DAY Meridian Waste Hosts Fourth Annual Earth Day Coloring Contest for Children WHO: Meridian Waste, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, is hosting its Fourth Annual Earth Day-themed coloring contest, “Brightening the World,” for children from five to 10-years of age. Earth Day is Saturday, April 22. WHAT: The global theme of Earth Day 2023 is “Invest In Our Planet”. Meridian Waste is helping to invest efforts into planting the seeds of caring for our planet with the next generation who will inherit the Earth. The fourth iteration of the Meridian Waste “Brightening the World” coloring contest will help children to engage in the concept of caring for the planet and how the environmental services and waste removal industry plays a significant role in the health and safety of communities served. The free activity is designed to help keep young people inspired and engaged in positive activities and show them how they can make a tangible impact on their community. The contest has two age categories for children with specific coloring sheets for age groups from five to seven years and from eight to 10-years of age. Coloring sheets are available for download on the Meridian Waste Earth Day website. In addition, contestants and their parents or guardians can upload completed materials to the same website in a .JPG (photo) or .PDF format. There is no purchase necessary to participate, nor does any party need to be a Meridian Waste customer. The contest is open to all children in the United States. Each age category will have a first, second, and third place winner, chosen by Meridian Waste staff. WHEN: The contest is open from Wednesday, March 1 until Thursday, April 20. Winners will be announced on the website on Saturday, April 22 with prizes mailed during the following weeks. WHERE: All children throughout the U.S. are eligible to win. Meridian Waste and Wake Tech Foundation Partner for a Cleaner Environment Feb 1, 2024 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 1, 2024 Meridian Waste and Wake Tech Foundation Partner for a Cleaner Environment Scholarship supports diesel technician and heavy equipment operator training vital to the environmental services industry Raleigh, NC (February 1, 2024) – Meridian Waste, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, announces a three-year scholarship commitment to support the Wake Tech Career Fields and Transportation education and certification program. The $15,000 scholarship will support six semesters of required industrial educational training. The Meridian Waste Scholarship for Clean Communities will be available for the Wake Tech Fall 2024 semester by application through Wake Tech Foundation at https://lnkd.in/eaCH5WR3.  The Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, service, and maintain diesel engines in vehicles such as heavy-duty trucks over the one-ton classification, solid waste collection vehicles, buses, ships, railroad locomotives, and equipment, along with stationary diesel engines in electrical generators and related equipment. Students will receive instruction in engines, hydraulics, electrical, electronic, and powertrain systems, among other topics. Coursework may include transportation systems theory, braking system, climate control, design parameters, drivetrains, electrical and electronic systems, engine repair, engine performance, environmental regulations, materials, product finish, safety, steering and suspension, transmission, transaxles, and sustainable transportation, depending on the course major and studies chosen. Graduates of the program should be prepared to take professional licensure exams, which correspond to certain areas of study to become entry-level technicians in the transportation industry. Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology (HEATT) programs are designed to provide the knowledge and skills to operate, troubleshoot, repair landfill and transfer stations equipment, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, and trucks. Graduates should qualify for entry-level employment in businesses that operate and repair these types of equipment in the solid waste and construction industries.   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE    Meridian Waste’s Gifting of the Turkeys Strengthens Community Ties   Charlotte, N.C. – (November 20, 2023) Meridian Waste Acquisitions, LLC, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, gifted 127 turkeys equaling approximately 2,667 lbs. of Thanksgiving’s main course to neighbors contiguous or impacted by the company’s disposal operations at its six landfills throughout its six state footprint. The vast majority of the turkeys were delivered on Saturday, November 18 as landfill staff knocked on doors to personally deliver a burlap bagged packaged turkey with gift card and orange ribbon to personally greet the landfills’ closest residents and to thank them for being such good neighbors.   “The Gifting of the Turkey’s outreach program is an effective and engaging means of getting to know our neighbors and help them understand that they have a personal contact to reach out to in case they have any questions or concerns regarding our landfills,” stated Walter “Wally” Hall, Meridian Waste’s CEO. “Meridian Waste makes a concerted effort to involve our community, and most importantly our neighbors, in the plans and operations of our disposal facilities, and to allow them to know firsthand what we do at the disposal sites,” said Hall. “We also provide accurate information from periodic solid waste industry detractors and for the community to recognize that we are transparent and proud of the way we manage our Meridian Waste landfills. Meridian Waste’s Lunenburg Landfill hosts more than 300 community members at Third Annual Fall Fun Fest Oct 30, 2023 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Meridian Waste’s Lunenburg Landfill hosts more than 300 community members at Third Annual Fall Fun Fest    Lunenburg, V.A. – (October 30, 2023) Meridian Waste Virginia LLC, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, welcomed more than 300 community members including elected officials, County staff, neighbors, students, and families to the Third Annual Fall Fun Fest on Saturday, October 28. Participation more than doubled from last year’s event due to positive word-of-mouth reviews from previous festivities and the warm fall day.   VISION RNG CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING AND RIBBON CUTTING OF LANDFILL GAS TO RENEWABLE NATURAL GAS PLANT AT THE MERIDIAN WASTE EAGLE RIDGE LANDFILL IN BOWLING GREEN MISSOURI   Canonsburg, Pa., October 12, 2023 - Today, Vision RNG and Meridian Waste celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the State of Missouri’s first Landfill Gas (LFG) to Renewable Natural Gas (RNG ) plant at Meridian’s Eagle Ridge Landfill in Bowling Ggreen, Missouri.   This marks the efforts of the VRNG/Meridian Waste partnership over the past 18 months to reach this significant milestone.  The plant takes LFG from the landfill, which would be otherwise flared, and converts it to a renewable energy resource.  The RNG is delivered to a nearby Panhandle Eastern pipeline and sold to energy company US Energy for distribution to its customers.   Conversion of LFG to RNG is one of just a few processes that offers significant energy AND environmental benefits at the same time.  LFG is composed 50% methane (natural gas) and about 45% carbon dioxide.  The methane component offers significant renewable energy benefits, while controlling and using the methane and carbon dioxide offer significant environmental benefits as both are significant greenhouse contributors. Meridian Waste’s Shotwell Environmental Park Annual Charity Pumpkin Patch  Attracts More than 400 Neighbors at Recent Event Raleigh, N.C. - October 9, 2023, Meridian Waste North Carolina LLC, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, welcomed more than 400 guests from the surrounding areas of Wake and Johnston Counties to the fourth annual Charity Pumpkin Patch at Shotwell Environmental Park on Saturday, October 7.   Guests enjoyed pumpkin painting, inflatable slides, obstacle courses, face painting, and a free BBQ lunch. The main attraction was the pumpkin patch where guests picked a pumpkin and made a charitable donation which Meridian Waste generously matched. This year’s donation recipients are East Wake Education Foundation and Good Hope Baptist Church. In addition to the family-friendly fall festivities, guests were invited to learn about the daily activities at the construction and demolition landfill by taking a hayride tour around the property while they viewed several types of heavy machinery and participated in the Touch-A-Truck area. “It’s a great day with when you get to watch children running around with their faces painted and bouncing on obstacle courses while knowing we are making a difference in our surrounding communities,” stated North Carolina Area President Patrick Messinger. “We are grateful for our guests’ generosity in selecting their perfect pumpkins, and Meridian Waste is proud to match the donations.” Shotwell Environmental Park is a construction and demolition (C&D) landfill located at 4724 Smithfield Road in Wendell.
