It’s time to #MeetMDHA through this month’s staff spotlight! Willis Simmons is a part of MDHA’s #InformationTechnology Department and his efforts help support every one of the nearly 350 employees at our Agency. He says the biggest perk of his job at #MDHA is getting to meet so many different people and hearing each of their stories. Watch the video to hear why Willis’ co-workers say he’s a superstar, not just in the #IT Department, but throughout the Agency. #StaffSpotlight #MDHAProud

This week, MDHA help celebrate the grand opening of Holladay Ventures’ Shelby House alongside local elected officials and valued community partners. This new development brings 195 new affordable apartment units to #EastNashville. Thanks to our partners, #MDHA is happy to support Shelby House by providing three funding sources. In partnership with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, MDHA provided project-based vouchers, which will enable Nashvillians with the greatest need to call Shelby House home. Additionally, MDHA is administering a more than $2.8 million dollar loan for Affordable Housing Gap Financing on behalf of #MetroNashville and in partnership with the Metro Office of Homeless Services. MDHA also provided a #PILOT, or payments in lieu of taxes, for the development. This program provides significant property tax relief to developers who have been awarded a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit through our partners at Tennessee Housing Development Agency. Public-private partnerships like this one help further MDHA's mission to create quality affordable housing opportunities, support neighborhoods, strengthen communities and help build a greater Nashville. The residents of #MDHA's Gernert Studio Apartments looked pretty in pink for today's #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth Lunch and Learn. 🩷🎗️ The event featured a catered lunch and a discussion led by Dr. Morgan Frye about the importance of early detection and efforts in cancer prevention. MDHA Resident Services Coordinator Deborah Morgan Prowell also took time to share her personal story as a breast cancer survivor. She made sure to remind residents that #BreastCancerAwareness is about more than just wearing pink! #BreastCancerSurvivor #LunchAndLearn

Those smiles say it all! 🤩 These residents of #MDHA's Gernert Studio Apartments were so excited to participate in our latest #SeniorTechAcademy. Once they officially complete the multi-day workshop, they will take home brand-new tablets of their own! In addition to learning how to use their tablets, residents are also learning how to read and send emails, watch movies, read e-books, listen to music, access health information and more. This project is funded under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee. Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development #SeniorTech #SeniorTechnology #DigitalSkills

Fall Break is usually a time for students to take a break from learning, but these youth chose to spend their time off gaining a new skill – coding! MDHA’s Fall Break Coding Academy was offered to middle and high school students living in MDHA housing. During the day-long workshop, students learned coding and navigation basics, gaming, creating music videos, social media etiquette and how to be good digital citizens. Plus, each student received a free laptop and backpack to continue their coding journey at home. 💻 Thank you to the many partners who helped make this opportunity possible for young #MDHA residents, including MNPS, Civic Hacker, Comcast, Oasis College Connection, Payne Technology, Nashville Public Library, Studio NPL, Best Buy and the Geek Squad. This project is funded under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee. #CodingAcademy #CodingCamp #CodingForKids #FallBreak

We're excited to announce a major milestone in addressing the need for affordable housing in #Nashville through public-private partnerships! #MDHA has now exceeded 10,000 affordable apartments created or preserved through our Payment in Lieu of Taxes program. The program provides 10 years of property tax relief to developers who have been awarded a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency. These financial incentives encourage developers to expand the supply of affordable multifamily housing through new construction and substantial rehabilitation and ensure that affordable housing development is financially feasible in #DavidsonCounty. Below are photos of a few developments that have received MDHA PILOTs since the program was created in 2016. #PublicPrivatePartnerships #PILOTProgram #Development #AffordableHousing

This morning, #MDHA officially welcomed two new members to our Board of Commissioners! Brittany Campagna and Colby Sledge were appointed by Metro Council. Today's meeting was the last for former Mayor Bill Purcell who has served as MDHA Board Chair for the past five years. MDHA Executive Director Dr. Troy D. White expressed his appreciation for Purcell's service on behalf of our entire Agency and presented him with a plaque. Stepping into the role of MDHA Board Chair is Commissioner Johnny B. Moore Jr. Congratulations!
