To close out October, Arquus will participate to MiliPol Qatar, a key security exhibition taking place in Doha from October 29 to 31. Arquus, a long-standing partner of the Qatari armed forces and security services, will be present under the French pavilion, alongside John Cockerill Defense, to showcase the latest innovations in its security range. For over four decades, Arquus has been committed to supporting Qatar’s armed forces and security services, contributing significantly to their modernisation and operational effectiveness. Since 1982, when the first VAB armoured vehicles were delivered, followed by the VBL models still in service today, trust between Arquus and Qatar has only grown stronger. In 2018, this relationship took a new step forward with the signing of a contract for the modernisation of the VAB Mk1 vehicles by the Qatari armed forces. This ambitious program, which includes modification studies, vehicle repairs, and training for industrial and military personnel, established a local production line in Qatar. With 126 fully renovated vehicles to date, Arquus became the first French defence company to set up military vehicle production directly in Qatar, demonstrating its commitment to long-term support for the country. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/g5A3jgV8

Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, has received a $6 million award from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to install the company’s ALIAS/MATRIX™ flight autonomy system onto the U.S. Army’s experimental fly-by-wire UH-60M Black Hawk® helicopter. Designated MX, the upgraded aircraft will enable the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) to test and evaluate a wide range of autonomy capabilities, from single pilot operation to fully uninhabited flight. The MATRIX autonomy system forms the core of DARPA’s ALIAS (Aircrew Labor In-cockpit Automation System) program. As part of ALIAS in 2020, Sikorsky provided the hardware and engineering support to add fly-by-wire flight controls to the MX aircraft. When combined with the MATRIX autonomy system, the MX aircraft will be a near-exact copy of Sikorsky’s UH-60A fly-by-wire Optionally Piloted Black Hawk helicopter, the company’s flying lab that has tested MATRIX autonomy over hundreds of flight hours. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/g6d93RPj

GM Defense has completed production of the first vehicles in support of the Diplomatic Security Service’s Heavy-Duty armored Sport Utility Vehicle (HD SUV) program. DSS is the law enforcement and security arm of the U.S. Department of State. GM marked the milestone event with Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security Gentry Smith and other key stakeholders at GM Defense’s Concord, North Carolina-based Manufacturing and Customer Innovation Center. GM Defense’s HD SUV solution, the Suburban Shield, features a new design with a unique body-on-frame chassis and suspension to support increased vehicle weight and performance requirements. The vehicle includes a high percentage of proven commercial-off-the-shelf parts from General Motors’ global supply chain, including the body, exterior, propulsion, interior, and brakes, for added reliability. The business’ covert armored vehicle is based on GM’s commercial vehicle architecture designed for full-size pickup trucks and large Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV). Suburban Shield maximizes use of commercial-off-the-shelf components, including the body, exterior, propulsion, interior, and brakes. Suburban Shield features a unique body-on-frame chassis and suspension designed to specifically support increased performance requirements, higher payload capacity, and greater ground vehicle weight over commercial-grade SUVs. GM Defense uses advanced manufacturing tools and techniques to ensure the highest level of quality and to realize cost efficiencies and flexibility, while helping the production team stay on schedule. GM Defense won the contract to support DSS’ next generation HD SUV last year. The program is intended to support DSS, in addition to more than a dozen other federal agencies. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak #GMDefense https://lnkd.in/gZ5zGC7N

NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) hosted a Pre-Series Command Liaison and Reconnaissance Vehicle (CLRV) Demonstration Day by the Luxembourg Army at its headquarters in Capellen, Luxembourg. Following the vehicle pre-series delivery ceremony held at the Military Centre in Diekirch (Luxembourg) on 11 October, the Luxembourg Armed Forces organized a Demonstration Day at NSPA’s Headquarters in Capellen, Luxembourg. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from Luxembourg Army provided technical and operational details about the technical specifications of the CLRVs, as well as the type of missions and operations applicable to these capabilities. The acquisition cost is €226.6 million. The acquisition and the life cycle cost of the vehicle and the systems fitted, including the logistics for 15–20 years has a cost cap of €367 million. The CLRV, or Command Liaison and Reconnaissance Vehicle, is designed to meet the Luxembourg Army’s needs for reconnaissance and liaison. Based on the Mowag Eagle V model by General Dynamics European Land Systems, the CLRV retains the robust characteristics of this proven vehicle, adding specialized communication and combat equipment to better meet modern requirements. Also used by Germany, the Eagle V is a light armored vehicle with significant versatility and exceptional battlefield survivability. Once operational, the multi-role and multi-purpose CLRVs will feature high ballistic and mine protection. The first ten production models are expected in March 2025, followed by 30 more by October 2025, and the final 40 by October 2026, replacing the Dingo and Hummer vehicles currently in service. https://lnkd.in/gzx3m2H8

Rheinmetall has handed over 20 additional Marder infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to the Ukrainian armed forces for their defence against the Russian aggressor. The delivery was completed at the end of the third quarter of 2024. This brings the total number of combat vehicles delivered directly to Ukraine or in the context of so-called ring exchanges (Ringtausch) to around 200. A three-digit number of these systems are Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles. In addition, Rheinmetall has provided Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Leopard main battle tanks in double digits through a ring exchange process. The latest order for the delivery of 20 Marder, financed by the German government, is worth a mid double-digit million euro amount. The order intake has already been booked in March 2024. The Marder 1A3 version being delivered by Rheinmetall to the Ukraine features additional laser rangefinders for efficient and precise target engagement. The first delivery of 20 combat vehicles of this type was arranged by Rheinmetall on behalf of the German government in March 2023; further deliveries followed, each in the double digits. As early as in the spring of 2022, Rheinmetall began taking over and refurbishing Marder 1A3 IFVs from Bundeswehr stocks – initially at its own expense. Since then, the combat vehicles have been repaired for their immediate deployment. The work is carried out at the corporation’s sites in Unterlüß and Kassel. According to the Oryx blog as of 3 September 2024, at least 26 Ukrainian Marders had been confirmed to have been lost by photos or videos; 13 destroyed, 3 damaged, 8 abandoned and 2 captured. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gb6qSEX4
