Empowering the Future: NC HBCU Apprenticeship Workshop Success! 🌟As a proud alum of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a dedicated board member of Forge Greensboro, I'm thrilled to share the success of today's NC HBCU Apprenticeship Workshop, sponsored by Mills Consulting & Contracting LLC, Jobs for the Future (JFF) Forge Makerspace Greensboro, ApprenticeshipNC - Part of the NC Community College System and HBCU 20x20 | The Application . Pioneering Solutions to Close the Systematic Gaps Between K-12 and Higher Ed | Strategic Partnerships
When I say Strategic Partnerships, this is what I mean. Last year, my goal was to host an event for HBCUs in North Carolina to help them understand how to leverage apprenticeships. It was clear from the beginning that this would require a dedicated team committed to making it happen. In September, I connected with Joshua Johnson and Maji Tharpe from Jobs for the Future (JFF), who helped transition my idea into an actionable plan. We defined what we would teach and the desired outcomes for participants. Our vision included building a consortium model for NC HBCUs, aimed at alleviating the administrative burdens associated with registering apprenticeship programs. Partnering with Dr. Dennis L. Johnson, we enlisted support to work directly with HBCU 20x20 | The Application to sponsor the apprenticeship programs. Dr. Johnson then connected with ApprenticeshipNC - Part of the NC Community College System, the North Carolina state apprenticeship agency, which will provide support to help Dr. Johnsons team register programs in the state. Realizing we wanted a more holistic approach, we partnered with Forge Greensboro and my friend Tiffany Jacobs. She brought employers, city governments, and community-based organizations (CBOs) to the table, creating an ecosystem designed to thrive. Thus, the first NC HBCU Apprenticeship Workshop was born, and it was a resounding success. I am thrilled about the work I am doing with Mills Consulting & Contracting LLC and proud to be in a position to build long-standing partnerships that have real impact.

I believe the best days are those spent knocking out client deliverables and meeting amazing people along the way. I had an incredible experience learning about the Clean Energy apprenticeship program at NCAT. The students there are on a path to creating a more energy-efficient world.

When I say I build strategic partnerships, this is what I mean. I am thrilled that Joy Jamerson, MBA from H-CAP and Zamantha Granados from LatinxEd both joined me at the ANC conference. I can't wait to return the love. From "Zoom to the Room" is my new slogan. Yes we can make connections on Zoom but let's meet and support one another in real life. Mills Consulting & Contracting LLC creating strategic partnerships for our clients one conference at a time.
