Commonwealth LNG and Kimmeridge Texas Gas (KTG) are taking an important step towards LNG production with transparent supply chain emissions disclosure. They've just announced their time-bound commitment to obtaining MiQ certification for their natural gas operations, potentially setting a new standard for transparency and reduced emissions in the industry.   Key highlights: 🔵 First use of certified emissions data to provide a baseline to inform high-quality carbon offsets. 🔵 Commonwealth and KTG will undergo comprehensive third-party audits to verify total carbon emissions, with a focus on methane through the MiQ Standard’s mitigation, monitoring and measurement practices. 🔵 This initiative supports Kimmeridge's innovative "wellhead-to-water" net zero cargo delivery for Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions. 🔵 KTG’s Eagleford asset will complete MiQ Certification in 2025. Commonwealth LNG facility will commence certification efforts within one month of full commercial operations. 🔵 The decision to certify reflects the global rise in demand for transparent, low-emission LNG, especially with new EU regulations becoming operationalized in 2025. While others are developing their monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems, MiQ’s certification framework is already in use, verifying emissions at scale. As the world gathers for yet another COP conference, methane emissions continue to rise, despite the numerous pledges, charters, and roadmaps laid out over the past few years. These pledges have laid the groundwork but, unfortunately, lack one critical element: execution.   Global emissions data shows methane emissions have increased, not decreased. We need to ask ourselves: Are we committed to meeting our targets, or are we content with making commitments without consequences? #MiQ #Methane

Relying on empty pledges has proven ineffective in accelerating methane emissions reductions in the oil and gas sector.    Only a combination of market forces and regulatory action will drive the reductions needed to meet our climate goals.   We have seen this play out in markets like solar and wind, EVs, and emissions trading. The EU's new methane regulation will force natural gas exporters to start accurately disclosing their methane emissions. This is what our CEO Georges Tijbosch told Fatima Sadouki for Montel News.   However, for the regulation to be effective, credible proof of traceability is required to avoid issues like double counting.   MiQ certification addresses this challenge. MiQ already certifies 20% of US gas production, and with the MiQ Supply Chain Protocol and the recent certification of Grain LNG, the EU can ensure its natural gas imports are low in methane emissions today.   Read the article in full here: https://lnkd.in/ehPYPwcr
