In an op-ed for Project Syndicate, Simon Johnson argues that a lack of government investment in innovation and geographic disparities in good jobs have fueled discontent in the US and other developed economies. The 2022 US CHIPS and Science Act provides an example of how governments can respond effectively. "If you want more good jobs, invest in science, facilitate the commercialization of the technology that results from it, and make it easy for people to build companies where the product was invented." As the newly minted senior director of recycling and sustainability at Staples Stores, Mike Sauchuk's first challenge was to develop a strategy that moved the company’s green initiatives forward and also aligned with its business objectives. Karishma Sewaramani, MD, MBA ’24, originally worked as an oncologist in India – providing care directly to cancer patients. Her impact in this space didn’t stop though when she chose to attend MIT Sloan – it just took a slight pivot. As part of Healthcare Lab, Karishma, along with several other students from MIT and Harvard, collaborated with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston to implement AI into their work, and what that would look like for a long-standing, leading hospital. She shared her experience at a recent panel highlighting MIT Sloan's Action Learning curriculum! Watch below. Atlanta, Georgia-based EnviroSpark Energy Solutions designs, installs, and operates EV charging solutions, typically at multi-family housing and corporate office centers. As the growing startup continued expanding its national footprint, they enlisted MIT Sloan Enterprise Management Lab (EM-Lab) students Annie Zhang, Connor Fox, and Sarah Schmid, for recommendations of which markets to target first. Shout out to my MIT OpsLab Team: Alix Carson, Jennifer Ray, Michael Norwalk and Rachael Knapp, for completing a great Amgen Project last month! Amgen is a leading biotechnology company that operates in 100 countries and regions worldwide and is one of MIT's OpsLab host companies.   As mentor to this team for the Spring Semester OpsLab course, I have had the privilege of mentoring the students as they worked on a high priority project with their host company. Working with host companies on projects of immediate importance in this experiential learning course teaches students problem solving, capacity planning, GIMBA, and analysis techniques.  Thank you also to Emi (Maria Emilia Lopez Marino), Henry Cruz, Carrie E. Action Learning team represents at Camp Sloan!

What if patients could receive hospital-quality care from the comfort of home? Beth Israel Lahey Health is making that possible. In August 2023, they launched the Hospital at Home program at one of the system’s hospitals, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, MA, enabling qualified patients to receive inpatient level care in a familiar environment. The ambitious project required entrepreneurial thinking and a startup mentality, which made MIT Sloan’s Healthcare Lab (H-Lab) a perfect collaborator, says Hospital at Home Vice President and MIT Executive MBA alumnus Susan Stempek, EMBA ’20.
