Introducing one of our newest Rotarians, Marit Harm! Marit is the Fund Administrator and Marketing Manager at Borgman Capital. Previously, she spent six years working at TEMPO Milwaukee, where she held various roles with a focus on member experience, marketing communications, event planning, fundraising and program management. In addition to her work, Marit serves on the executive committee for Moms Mental Health Initiative, a grassroots nonprofit that helps perinatal women struggling with mood disorders. This week, Rotarians heard from James Mathy, the Administrator for Milwaukee County Housing Services, and manager of a number of homeless and real estate programs. James discussed Milwaukee’s current homeless crisis, his commitment to a long-term vision for affordable housing, and how his team's initiatives have garnered attention on a national scale. James Mathy is the real deal and his team at Milwaukee County Housing is amazing. Today he helped the Rotary Club of Milwaukee understand the impact of the Housing First model County implemented in 2014. While I wish there wasn’t any homelessness anywhere, I am glad we have folks like Jim leading the fight for affordable an sustainable housing. Guest House of Milwaukee is a proud and deep partner with County Housing.

There’s something special about getting some moments of wild-ness in the city. Love taking in the fall colors at the Rotary Club of Milwaukee arboretum while my young ones are deep in First Stage rehearsal. Grateful to be a part of a club that does amazing things. The course was full, but like the horses she has trained, Erin finds a way to get over or around obstacles. Erin says, “I have so much passion for Milwaukee and what we can accomplish as a community. I want to find the best way to invest in the city and amplify the stories and voices of Milwaukee’s neighborhoods.” Thank you to Mary Gellerup Bolich for putting together this excellent profile on Erin!

In 1985, Rotary International launched PolioPlus, the first and largest internationally coordinated private-sector support of a public health initiative. Today, on the 39th Annual World Polio Day, the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, along with members of other clubs from District 6270 (Mitchell Field, Elmbrook, Waukesha, Waukesha Sunrise, Plymouth) joined together to Light the Hoan Bridge in Purple to bring awareness and really to showcase how close we are to eradicating this disease. "The eradication of polio is one of our (Rotary International's) longest standing and most significant efforts. Along with our partners, we have helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children against polio in 122 countries. We have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent worldwide and we won't stop until we end the disease for good." ~www.endpolio.org.
