A team of doctors and scientists that specialize in PCR applications to genetically identify pathogens.

About us

Molecular Designs is a team of doctors and scientists working to advance molecular diagnostics. Our founding physicians entered the molecular diagnostics market focused on the most common pathogens that impact the population – making products that were cost-effective, reduced waste, and easy to use. Our mission is to empower providers and researchers with the molecular insights needed to deliver exceptional patient care. We do this by developing, producing, and supplying multiplex assays for research use. We believe we can make the world a healthier place by improving the delivery and use of molecular technologies. As a physician-founded company, we’re passionate about helping people, sharing our expertise, and improving healthcare outcomes. It is a privilege to do the work we do – and we have built an exceptional reputation as problem-solvers with an unwavering commitment to integrity. With locations in Alabama and Texas, and remote workers nationwide, we continue to seek top talent to support our growth, develop new molecular diagnostics, and better serve our customers. Our suite of employee benefits includes medical, dental, and vision insurance. And our 401K plan with company match program, paid time off, extensive voluntary benefits, and staff appreciation programs make Molecular Designs an employee-first organization.

One Health Investigation into Mpox and Pets Previously, experts have raised concerns regarding Mpox’s potential for reverse zoonotic transmission. However, at least one study found no confirmed MPXV infections in domestic animals. The CDC One Health initiative-led study sampled 34 pets across 21 households for viral detection. While the sample size is small and further investigation is likely warranted, this helps to evolve our understanding of mpox, which originated as a primarily zoonotic-transmitted illness. Despite this, the CDC continues to recommend avoiding animal contact until lesions have healed over. #pcr #pcrtesting #pcrindustrynews News Source: CDC - https://hubs.li/Q02S58530

Wastewater Surveillance for Influenza A Virus and H5 Subtype Concurrent with the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A(H5N1) Virus Outbreak in Cattle and Poultry and Associated Human Cases In the past, predicting influenza activity relied largely on tracking viral rates in the Souther Hemisphere. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic, wastewater surveillance has become an important auxiliary tool for tracking viral illnesses. One recent CDC study shows that influenza A and H5 subtype detection in wastewater provides a community-level look at pathogen spread, and one that is unaffected by testing access or care-seeking behavior. However, since viral particles in wastewater can come from both human and animal sources, it can be a challenge to appropriately interpret these results, especially for viruses that are active in zoonotic populations. However, as a supplementary tool, wastewater surveillance may help labs stay ahead of respiratory virus trends. #pcr #pcrtesting #pcrindustrynews #WastewaterSurveillance #PublicHealth #InfluenzaTracking #ViralIllness #ZoonoticViruses News Source: CDC - https://hubs.li/Q02S58bC0"

Rapid Diagnostic Testing Decreases Broad Spectrum Antibiotic Use in Bloodstream Infections One of the lynchpins to effective Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASP), which is typically implemented to reduce unnecessary antibiotic usage, is effective diagnostic testing. A recent study from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center shows the power of PCR to reduce broad-spectrum antibiotic use, particularly in the management of Strep bacteremia. Researchers found that using PCR reduced the duration of broad-spectrum therapy by an average of 46 hours. Study investigator Tyler Tate, MD, notes “With those results, we were able to narrow therapy sooner than we would with traditional identification methods." #pcr #pcrtesting #pcrindustrynews #AntibioticStewardship #RapidDiagnostics #InfectiousDiseases #Sepsis #PCRResearch News Source: Contagion Live - https://hubs.li/Q02S580r0

Mpox cases have recently surged, leading the WHO to escalate the virus’ status to “Public Health Emergency of International Concern” (PHEIC). In response to the status change, they are calling on manufacturers of mpox in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) to submit expressions of interest for Emergency Use Listing (EUL) to expand access to essential testing. Establishing EUL procedures will allow fast-track approval and distribution of diagnostic testing. PCR’s rapid adaptability and flexibility will likely be instrumental in combatting surging mpox cases, and the EUL will reduce regulatory friction for its integration. #pcr #pcrtesting #pcrindustrynews #MpoxTesting #GlobalHealthSecurity #EmergencyResponse News Source: WHO - https://hubs.li/Q02QX2Gp0

WHO Director-General declares mpox outbreak a public health emergency of international concern The director of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has declared the recent surge of mpox in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and other African nations a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The new cause for concern stems from the emergence of mpox strain clade 1b, which has rapidly spread - the status change promotes increased international action and support. Dr. Tedros notes, “On top of outbreaks of other mpox clades in DRC and other countries in Africa, it’s clear that a coordinated international response is needed to stop these outbreaks and save lives.” Over 15,600 cases and 537 deaths have been reported in the DRC this year alone. #pcr #pcrtesting #pcrindustrynews #MpoxOutbreak #PublicHealthEmergency #GlobalHealth #WHOAlert News Source: WHO - https://hubs.li/Q02QXR1M0

Colorado Ramps up Bird Flu Response, Requires Milk Testing As a response to the concerning findings of the dairy cattle bird flu (H5N1) outbreak, Colorado has intensified its response by mandating weekly milk testing to prevent further spread among cattle, poultry, and humans. Colorado has specifically reported infections in 47 dairy herds, which has resulted in 3.1 million egg-laying chickens getting wiped out - this reflects 70% of the state's laying hens. State veterinarian Maggie Baldwin commented on the rationale for advanced testing program, “We really said what we're doing right now is not effective and we need to change strategy. #pcr #pcrtesting #pcrindustrynews #PublicHealth #pandemic #H5N1 #AvianFlu News Source: U.S. News & World Report - https://hubs.li/Q02QXTVq0
