Moms are facing unprecedented challenges—and it’s not our fault. America is in the midst of a crisis in maternal health and child care, and it’s women who bear the brunt of these issues. “We are the wealthiest nation that puts the least amount of money into child care,” says Reshma Saujani, founder of Moms First. From the motherhood penalty to the rising maternal mortality rate that Every Mother Counts and Christy Turlington are working to change, women face these issues daily–yet the burden is placed on them to fix it. We don’t just have a gender pay gap; we have a motherly pay gap. It’s time to demand real solutions. A shout out to Fortune MPW for bringing Moms First and Every Mother Counts together to break down the state of motherhood in America. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gA6a2vt5

Today is a big day for our founder & CEO Reshma Saujani. Reshma has spent her entire career focused on empowering women and girls, and changing the systems that hold us back. When it comes to moms, that work doesn’t stop when our kids get older, or when we get older. Today, her new podcast, My So-Called Midlife, premieres with Lemonada Media - the show aims to expose the con that women have been sold about midlife. Women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s have accomplished so much, yet we’re still figuring out what the rest of our lives look like. At the same time, we’ve been told that midlife should suck, and we’ve accepted it. On her podcast, Reshma will ask why—and talk about how we can push back. The first two episodes of My So-Called Midlife dropped today, featuring two powerhouse guests that we know and love: Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Emily Oster We hope you'll give it a listen. Moms: we have a great opportunity to share your story! So many moms out there are part of the sandwich generation — you're caring for your kids and your parents at the same time, playing two caregiving roles and juggling the financial expense that come with it! We are working with a reporter who is hoping to speak with moms who are struggling to afford the high cost of in-home care for aging parents. If this sounds like you and you'd like to share your story with a reporter, please send us a message. We'd love to hear from you. Thank you in advance. 💚

How did child care become *the* kitchen table issue for parents this election season? Short answer: moms. It’s never been more clear that moms (and all parents) are not okay. So Moms First spent the past 6 months mobilizing our country’s 85 millions moms to make sure child care could not be ignored. We are so proud of this tireless community for sharing their stories and using their voice. And a big shout out to our moms who shared their stories with USA TODAY's Jessica Guynn for this terrific look back at how child care became the top issue for parents in the 2024 election! https://lnkd.in/ew7-chQ5

By now, you've probably seen the U.S. Surgeon General's Advisory on the Mental Health & Well-Being of Parents. Spoiler alert: The parents are not okay. The first step in solving this crisis—that is so ingrained in our society—is to acknowledge it. So today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, we're taking a moment to say to all the parents out there: we see you. You are not alone. We are ready to roll up our sleeves and fight for the structural changes parents need to break this cycle of stress and burnout. Spread the word by sharing this post—together, we can do more to support parents and caregivers!
