Vulnerability—a concept we hear about more and more, yet many of us still struggle with it, especially in the workplace. Why should I be vulnerable? How can I be vulnerable while maintaining confidence and credibility in my role? In this episode of 5 Minute Motivation (which, full disclosure, ran a bit longer at 9 minutes), I had the pleasure of speaking with Dori Wittman, Employee Benefits Consultant at HUB International about this topic. Dori is one of those “super connectors” and her secret sauce is vulnerability. It’s been the key to her success both inside and outside of work, and I’ve been lucky enough to see it first hand. Thank you, Dori, for sharing your thoughts and inspiring us to get out of our comfort zone and be REAL! #Authenticity #Vulnerability #HumanCentered #Leadership

  • Have you had to make an unpopular decision recently? 💭 Here's some tips on how to navigate it with your team. In addition to explaining the why and helping them move forward, show empathy and understanding. It does not weaken your position or indicate that your decision was incorrect! It serves to connect with your team to let them know you see them, hear them, and acknowledge that this is not easy. Keep the lines of communication open! Did you find this helpful? • One of the biggest challenges we see with performance evaluations is not what happens during that process, but more so about what happened (or didn't) well before we get to the point of performance evaluations. Performance evaluations should be focused on feedback relative to expectations, as well as a summary/recap of previous feedback conversations. We run into trouble if the above 2 things did not happen all year! We recommend quarterly "mini-reviews" to ensure that you are reviewing/updating the big goals, and ensuring you are recapping/providing holistic feedback along the way. This process not only helps performance and engagement all year long, it will make the annual review more effective and fair. Need support to revitalize performance management in your organization? Contact us today to develop a new process that provides tangible meaning and value in your organization. #leadership #training #development #performancereviews #humancentered

  • Recently promoted? Here's how to smoothly transition from an individual contributor role to a leadership position. 1️⃣ Recognize that your success is now intertwined with the success of your team! This shift in mindset means that your technical skills, while important, are no longer the primary way you will make an impact in your company. 2️⃣ Developing leadership skills is essential and can be cultivated just like any other skill. Even if you have natural leadership qualities, actively seek resources and training to enhance this new skill set. To accelerate your growth, engage with your team to understand their leadership preferences and needs. Did you find this helpful? • Use feedback to drive your professional growth!📈 Feedback is one of the most important growth tools we have. Unfortunately, many people rely on the skill of the feedback deliverer to determine whether or not they will hear or use the feedback. Regardless of how well that feedback is delivered, be curious. Ask questions to understand the what, how, why and impact. They key is awareness. We cannot change what we are not aware we are doing (or not doing)! Did you find this helpful? • We love Stephen Nedoroscik’s story. If you haven't heard it or aren’t closely following the Olympics, we encourage you to check it out. What can we learn from his journey? In our work coaching and developing leaders and professionals, we emphasize the importance of recognizing and leveraging one’s strengths. While it’s crucial to address any significant skill gaps and continuously develop necessary competencies, understanding and utilizing your natural strengths is key to excelling. As you advance in your career, the surest path to success is to deeply embrace your unique talents and strengths. You’re much more likely to achieve expertise and effectiveness in areas where you’re naturally inclined, rather than trying to improve in areas that aren’t your natural calling. What are you exceptionally good at? What comes naturally to you? How can you further develop these innate gifts, add more value, and refine them into your Superpowers? This is your personal secret sauce, and it’s where you’re likely to achieve your greatest successes. #BeYou #ProfessionalDevelopment #Summer #Paris2024

  • Creating an environment where team members feel safe to express themselves, be vulnerable, and learn from mistakes is crucial for fostering innovation and growth! Here are some key practices to cultivate psychological safety within your team: -Encourage Open Communication: Ensure that everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas without fear of judgment or retaliation. Create multiple channels for open dialogue and actively listen to your team. -Embrace Vulnerability: As a leader, be open about your own challenges and uncertainties. This lets others know it's okay to be honest and open about their experiences. -Support Through Mistakes: Encourage your team to view "failures" as learning opportunities. Create an atmosphere where mistakes are seen as a natural part of growth. -Show Appreciation: Recognize and celebrate contributions and efforts, no matter how small. • 🌟 Wrapping up a transformative 1-year bespoke Leadership Development Program for our client has been an incredible journey! We're deeply touched by the collective “Thank You” card (and the emails) they sent. This is why we do what we do! 💖 Key success factors behind this impactful program: 🔹 CEO’s Commitment: The program was initiated and passionately supported by the CEO, who stayed engaged throughout. 🔹 Personal Invitations: Participants were personally invited and supported, including travel arrangements. 🔹 Continuous Engagement: This wasn’t a one-time event; it was a custom-designed, curated set of learning experiences bringing the cohort together multiple times, both in-person and virtually. We built trusting relationships over time. 🔹 Adaptive Approach: We built the airplane as we flew it. The last two quarters' topics were participant-driven, allowing me to tailor sessions to their current needs. 🔹 Active Participation: The leaders showed up, both physically and mentally, sharing their experiences, challenging their routines, and learning from each other. 🔹 Leveraging Diversity: We harnessed the power of diverse perspectives by having leaders from different parts of the business engage with each other. Looking forward to kicking off Cohort #2 next month! 🚀✨ #LeadershipDevelopment #TeamSuccess #ContinuousLearning #DiversityAndInclusion #Grateful 🙏
