One of the biggest challenges we see with performance evaluations is not what happens during that process, but more so about what happened (or didn't) well before we get to the point of performance evaluations. Performance evaluations should be focused on feedback relative to expectations, as well as a summary/recap of previous feedback conversations. We run into trouble if the above 2 things did not happen all year! We recommend quarterly "mini-reviews" to ensure that you are reviewing/updating the big goals, and ensuring you are recapping/providing holistic feedback along the way. This process not only helps performance and engagement all year long, it will make the annual review more effective and fair. Need support to revitalize performance management in your organization? 🌟 Over-the-Year Performance Management: Every Day Counts 🌟 Formal performance reviews are often seen as a once-a-year necessity in many organizations. But here's the truth: great leaders know that performance management isn't a box to check off annually—it's a daily commitment. In today's fast-paced workplace, waiting a year to address performance concerns or offer praise simply isn't effective. Instead, it's about fostering a culture of continuous feedback and growth. Whether it's a quick check-in, a word of encouragement, or constructive criticism, regular communication keeps teams aligned, motivated, and focused on their goals. It's about recognizing achievements in real-time and addressing challenges before they escalate. So here's to the leaders who understand that performance management isn't just a yearly event—it's a daily investment in their team's success. Let's strive to make every day count! #PerformanceManagement #Leadership #FeedbackCulture #ContinuousImprovement

Performance Management - a key pillar to effective leadership - identifies, measures, and develops the performance of teams and individuals and aligns that performance with organizational goals. Built on the foundation of proactively “coaching to win”, Performance Management leverages critical insights into why positive reinforcement outweighs punitive discipline, identifying a team’s most effective motivators and detractors, and problem identification as the first step in the decision-making cycle. #leadership #leadershiptips #performance #management #culture #team #excellence

The concept of Performance Management has been widely recognized for some time now. When expressing the idea of "A manages the performance of B," what terms are used for A and B in your organization? In the context of MBO, Management by Objectives, you could rephrase it as "A manages B by goals" (let's temporarily exclude “self-control” from consideration). Examples could include: 1. The line manager manages the performance of team members. 2. I manage my own performance. 3. HR manages the performance of employees, and so on. Different organizations may use varying terminology, influenced by their culture and circumstances. (There might be voices questioning the concept of "management" itself.) Personally, I try to lead the organization so that each team member can do “I manage my own performance.” and the line managers can support the team members to achieve. How is it in your organization? #PerformanceManagement #OrganizationalCulture #Leadership
