Celebrating Our Dedicated Deer Management Volunteers In July, members of the Natural Resources team gathered to honor our incredible volunteers in the Deer Management program at Montgomery Parks. Their commitment and service have made a significant impact on our program. We recognized several volunteers for their higher-level roles and dedication as “Crew Leaders.” Additionally, we proudly presented the “Lifetime Achievement Award” to Ray Lipscomb and Don Frizzell. Ray has been volunteering since 2000, and Don since 2007. Both exemplify what it means to be dedicated and to serve selflessly for the good of the program and the benefits it brings. The evening concluded with our fun “Guess the Deer Pellets” game (chocolate-covered peanuts) and the grand prize. Special thanks to David Petersen and Madeline Gerardi for organizing this heartwarming event, and to Andy for his creative craftsmanship in designing and engraving the wooden plaques. Thank you, volunteers, for making a difference!

We are so proud of the Archaeology Camp Counselors-in-Training! As part of a weeklong program preparing them to work along camp staff, the CITs completed a Youth Camp Safety Training Program led by CPR/First Aid Instructor Shirl Spicer. CITs learned how to react in an emergency and practiced basic first aid on each other. During the rest of the week, CITs practiced behavior management techniques and learned how to excavate and identify artifacts! After the week, the CITs were ready for the real thing: working directly with the campers at the CRSS Archaeology and Road Trippin’ Camps. We hope they learned that archaeology and learning about the past is fun! Learn more about our Archaeology program: https://lnkd.in/epVtnwHM
