    Last month, Chefs Jay Z, CEC, Jillian Marino, RD, LD, and Joe Kraft, CEC, CCA, AAC, as well as Milan Galovic, Field Marketing Manager, represented Morrison Healthcare at the American Culinary Federation (ACF) National Conference.👨🍳The team pulled out all the stops- hosting a booth for industry information as well as job opportunities, offering samples of our original recipes, conducting a live culinary demo, and even speaking in our very own session about the future of healthcare dining! We are so grateful to have had this opportunity, and look forward to continue collaboration with the ACF.

    August is #KidsEatRightMonth, and Chef Jason "Jay Z" Ziobrowski, a Morrison Healthcare Corporate R&D Chef, uses his nutrition expertise to educate school children on the importance of eating their fruits & veggies! For over 12 years now, Chef Jay Z has traveled to multiple elementary schools in several states. He uses fun characters such as Tommy Tomato, Carlos Carrot, and Bobby Broccoli to help kids with fruit & veggie identification using the phrase “5 a day the color way, portion size the size of my fist!” We love seeing our chefs positively influence kids' future health and show them how they can have fun while eating healthy! 🍎🥕

    In 2017, John Paul Carpenter, current Senior Director of Dining Services for Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, had a patient preparing for a liver transplant with a restrictive diet who would not eat. John Paul helped the patient get the nutrients she needed, followed her dietary restrictions, and still satisfied her cravings. 7 years later, John Paul was approached in the café by this patient's mother who expressed her gratitude for everything he did for her daughter, and shared that he inspired her to come work for the hospital as well!     Those who know Annie Murray say she’s hard-working, spirited, and fierce. Born with Down syndrome, she recently traveled to Iceland, representing the U.S., for a program to celebrate ice skaters with the Special Olympics. She left with a medal to add to her growing collection of achievements. After she phoned her parents to share the exciting news, she called her work managers. During the week days you’ll find Annie working at one of our food service areas on main campus, high-fiving fellow coworkers, patients and visitors, and striking up a conversation that always leaves people smiling. She’s proud to share she’s coming up on her four-year work anniversary. Her colleagues have become her work family. Annie says they’ve helped her gain a sense of teamwork. And she’s quick to add they’re “super awesome!” Outside of work, Annie has been figure skating ever since she was 5 years old. She takes after her family. Annie’s mom is a figure skater, and her dad and brothers are all speed skaters. You can also add swimming and dancing to her favorite pastimes. Her mom, Janette, says she keeps everyone grounded and is proud to see Annie lead by example. While Annie keeps going for gold, her message to others is, “Never give up.” A champion on and off the ice! 🙌

    It can be hard to eat nutritious foods when taking a road trip, but Brooklyn Miller, one of our very own Registered Dietitians at Orlando Health, seems to have found a solution: a "Snackle Box"! 😋 This snack-filled tackle box uses reusable cupcake liners as separators for fruits, nuts, crackers, meats, and cheeses, creating a customizable and portable option for on-the-go snacking. Brooklyn joined Maggie Rodriguez, guest host of the nationally syndicated health and wellness show, Bloom, to discuss the Snackle Box, its benefits, and how to make it yourself!     Chef Michael Millben, one of our Mayo Clinic chefs, was recently crowned the winner of the Health Care Culinary Contest, held by Health Care Without Harm, Practice Greenhealth, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Menus of Change, an initiative of The Culinary Institute of America 🍽 Chef Michael's winning dish was his "Three Sisters Blue Zone Tacos", plantain-based shells stuffed with corn, chayote squash, and black beans, inspired by Blue Zone diets. He was also invited to attend the Menus of Change Summit in New York to discuss the importance of these diets and how to bring healthy, delicious food options into healthcare.
